Navigating The Route
This is a circular Detective Mystery through Peterborough city centre, riverside paths and historic streets, with sleuths following pavements, pedestrian areas and waterside routes as they work to uncover what really happened to Rick the Brick.
The route follows mostly flat pavements and well maintained paths throughout, making it suitable for both wheelchairs and pushchairs.
⚠️ Important: You will be travelling along busy town streets, pedestrianised areas and stretches beside the River Nene, so detectives should use crossings where available, stay alert at all times and keep younger team members under close supervision.
Take extra care along the riverside sections, where there are unfenced edges and passing cyclists, and avoid getting too close to the water while examining clues.
Getting There
Time to assemble your squad and open the case file:
By car: Car Haven Pay & Display Car Park (PE1 1YX) is the recommended parking spot. If it’s busier than a suspect’s alibi, try Riverside Car Park (PE1 1EG) nearby.
By public transport: Peterborough is well served by bus and rail links, with the city centre and start point within easy walking distance of transport hubs.
Your investigation begins in Bishop’s Road Gardens (PE1 1YU) - so step into position, gather your evidence kit and start scanning for your first clue straight away.
Need the Loo?
Even top detectives need a comfort break during a long case!
Toilets can be found at the suggested car park near the start, and later at the free-entry museum after Clue 12, which also has café facilities - a useful mid-investigation pause point.
Bring Your Furry Sidekicks
Four-legged detectives are welcome on the case 🐾
With a mix of city streets, riverside paths and open spaces, it’s a great outing for canine companions - just keep leads handy near roads, water and busier areas.
Food & Drink Stops
Cracking this case is hungry work!
You’ll find good opportunities to grab refreshments after Clue 08 or near the end of your investigation, so it’s worth planning your refuel stops as you go.
If you prefer, Bishop’s Road Gardens makes a great picnic spot before you begin or once you’ve wrapped up the case.
Want to Make a Day of It?
Riverside Walks and Waterside Clues
The River Nene adds a scenic and atmospheric stretch to your investigation, with bridges, boats and plenty of places for evidence to… drift into view.
Historic Streets and Hidden Stories
From medieval routes to modern city spaces, Peterborough’s layered history provides a rich backdrop for a case built on rivalry and reputation.
Culture, Museums and a Bonus Stop
The free-entry museum offers a great optional stop mid-investigation - perfect for a breather, a bite to eat and a little extra local insight before getting back on the trail.
