The Disappearing Diamonds - A Treasure Hunt Through the Shakespeare Line

Calling all intrepid explorers! A thrilling adventure awaits you on the Shakespeare Line. This self-guided treasure hunt trail will take you on a journey through time and across the beautiful English countryside in search of stolen jewels. Follow in the footsteps of the notorious thief 'Light-fingered' Lorenzo Pincher, and uncover hidden clues, fascinating art, and twisting tales along the way.

Treasure Hunt Through Stratford-upon-Avon and Henley-in-Arden

The year is 1900, and the Shakespeare Line has just opened, providing crafty criminals with the perfect getaway route from Birmingham. On one fateful night, during a performance by opera star Lucretia Warble, all of her jewels were stolen by the infamous Lorenzo Pincher. But before the authorities could apprehend him, the gems had mysteriously disappeared. Legend says he slipped them to an accomplice at the Henley-in-Arden stop, and now it's your turn to follow the trail and solve the century-old mystery.

Your adventure begins in Stratford-upon-Avon, where you'll explore the fascinating art scene before hopping on the train to Moor Street Station in Birmingham. Along the way, you'll make a stop at Henley-in-Arden, the centre of the Royal town, where you'll uncover sneaky clues and hidden gems as you search for the lost loot. But beware, the Chief has sent you on a cold case, and only the most daring adventurers will be able to locate the treasure and crack the case.

Are you ready to embark on this exciting treasure hunt through the Shakespeare Line?

What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

Before you set off on your awesome adventure, there are a few things you need to know...

It's very important to check the train timetables before and during the Trail as the rail service needed to complete it only runs hourly. The running times from Stratford-upon-Avon station can be checked by clicking this link.

The route is friendly for wheelchair users and pushchairs.

Bring your four-legged friends along! Please note that dogs will need to be kept on leads, including while on the train.

Parking is available at both Stratford-upon-Avon and Moor Street train stations, depending on which way you’d prefer to tackle your expedition (we recommend starting from Stratford).

There are some fantastic events throughout the year, all of which are great times to visit these beautiful cities and towns. However, you may find that some of the clues on this Trail may become obstructed or difficult to access on these occasions. If you would like further information about event dates, please contact the relevant Tourist Information services or search online.

There are public toilets available towards the train stations and in the centre of Henley. The route passes several pubs and a few cafes along the way for refuelling and stocking up on snacks.

Why not make a day of it and visit Shakespeare’s Birthplace in Stratford or The Heritage Centre in Henley to unlock more twisting tales and fascinating facts? Or, take a trip down Birmingham’s Back to Backs to discover what life was like for the city’s residents in times gone by. You could even challenge yourself to our other Stratford-upon-Avon, Henley-in-Arden and Birmingham Trails to let out your inner treasure seeker, daring detective or slippery spy!
