Before You Set Off
Before You Set Off
Before you set off on your awesome adventure to explore Chester, there are a few things you need to know...
Occasionally, sections of the walls may need to be closed off for maintenance. We do our very best to keep abreast of such work but please ask you to follow any diversions or instructions that such work may cause.
The route isn’t friendly for wheelchair users and pushchairs due to steep steps, cobbles, and hills all included in the Trail.
Bring your four-legged friends along! Please note that it is a busy city centre so dogs will need to be kept on leads.
The closest long stay pay and display car park to the Trail start point is New Market Parking (CH1 2AR), just a few minutes walk away. Or why not try Chester’s Park and Ride service?
There are some fantastic events in Chester’s calendar, all of which are great times to visit this beautiful city. However, you may find that some of the clues on this Trail become obstructed or difficult to access on these occasions. Please check for any events before setting off.
There are public toilets available towards the beginning of the Trail (in the cathedral - entrance fee applies), as well as at Clue 08, and the route passes several pubs and a few cafes along the way.
Looking for more things to do in Chester? Make a day of it and visit Chester Zoo to make some furry friends, or head to Grosvenor Museum to learn more twisting tales about the city. You could even challenge yourself to our Chester - City Walls Trail and let out your inner treasure seeker!
