A Puzzling Autumn

Given everything that’s happened so far this year, we figured that’s the next few months are going to form ‘A Puzzling Autumn’! So, we’re making the most of it and are celebrating everything weird and wonderful about puzzles through autumn 2020.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be diving into some puzzle history, cultural differences and how some of our favourite brainteasers have played important roles at critical times for societies and countries.

Working hard to crack that curious crossword!

Do you know which famous author invented not one but TWO types of popular word puzzles? Or how old the oldest riddle is? We’ll be delving into our Puzzling History on Thursday 17th September 2020 to reveal our curious past of solving conundrums. You’ll be surprised to find how modern some of the most popular puzzles are!

Of course, we can’t look at the history of puzzles without exploring the hard work from the codebreakers during World War II. On Thursday 1st October 2020 we’ll investigate the Puzzling War and take a look at the crazy cryptograms cracked by those at Bletchley Park, which have inspired many of our Spy Mission Trail Clues!

A love of mind-boggling brainteasers spreads across the globe, with so many new puzzles created in Japan now reaching mainstream success in the UK. But what about the other countries? We’ll be exploring the Puzzling World on Thursday 15th October 2020 to see what puzzles are on offer across the world.
