The Mysterious Disappearance of Terry Bell
Something strange is happening in York. Novice campanologist Terry Bell has been reported missing and the police are stumped. Known for his midnight bell-ringing performances, Terry's attempts at campanology have struck a nerve with the locals, resulting in numerous complaints about loud, off-key bells during the small hours. But now, Terry has vanished, leaving behind a trail of clues that only the most daring adventurers can follow.
Adventure Through York's Minster and The Shambles
Join DCI Peale Ringer of the Regional Crime Squad as she tolls the bell for justice. Start your adventure at the iconic York Minster, where Terry was last seen. As you make your way through the historic streets of The Shambles, you'll encounter sneaky clues hidden in the city's landmarks and permanent features.
But be warned-this Trail won't be easy. With Terry's skills, it's hard to tell if the clues are real or just a figment of his imagination. Can you put the pieces together and solve the mystery before the trail goes cold?
York is waiting... Will YOU be able to catch the culprit and stop the clang-spiracy?

Before You Set Off
Before You Set Off
Before you set off on your awesome adventure, there are a few things you need to know...
This Trail is not marked as wheelchair or pushchair friendly due to cobbled streets and narrow pavements throughout. However, there are no steps to tackle, so the route could be navigable for sturdier pushchairs and motorised wheelchairs - as long as you keep a close eye on traffic.
This is not a dog-friendly Trail as it takes you through Dean's Park (Clues 1 and 2) (open 7am until dusk), where pups are prohibited.
Dean's Park is sometimes closed due to strong winds during the winter months; please check it is open before starting your Trail.
The closest long stay pay and display car park to the Trail start point is at St. John's Street (YO31 7QR), just a 10-minute walk away. Or why not try York’s Park and Ride service?
York is a fantastic city full of rich history - there is always something going on! The fantastic 'Heart of Yorkshire' festival takes place in Dean's Park throughout the summer, and various foodie fayres take place throughout the year. You may find that during some of these events, clues could be obscured or hard to access. Please contact York's Visitor Information for event dates, if needed.
There are public toilets available at Union Terrace, a five-minute walk from the start point of the Trail, and the route passes cafes, food stands and several pubs along the way.
Why not make a whole day of it and take a look inside York Minster or pay a visit to the Richard III and Henry VII Experiences for more of York's history? You could even extend your adventuring and have a go at one of our other York Trails (The Chocolate and Sweet Trail will make your mouth water)!
