The Mysterious Case of the Beaney Burglars

The residents of Canterbury are in an uproar; the Beaney Institute has been broken into! A number of priceless artefacts relating to the city's history have been stolen, including a brand new collection due to be revealed in just two days time. All is not lost, however, as the bungling burglars made a disastrous mistake (for them, at least) during their escape. As they fled the scene, they dropped some paperwork including a map of a mysterious island off the Kent coastline. The map contains several locations where we believe the thieves are hidden, along with Clues that will help pinpoint their lair. DCI Justin Case has called in help from the Exploration Society to tackle this perilous quest. Can you - our TOP Adventurers - help us crack the Clues and track down the thieves before the exhibition?

Treasure Hunt Through Canterbury - The King's Mile

Brave explorers, we need you for a quest! Your self-guided treasure hunt will take you on a journey through the historic east side of Canterbury. Starting at the Beaney, you'll skirt around the city walls and explore the quirky shopping area, The King's Mile, before finishing your expedition in the beautiful Westgate Gardens. Remember to keep your eyes peeled as you go…

What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

Before you set off on your awesome adventure to explore Canterbury, there are a few things you need to know…

The last few Clues are set in Westgate Gardens, which close at dusk, so please leave plenty of time to complete your Trail.

The route is friendly for wheelchair users and pushchairs. Please note there are some narrow pathways along the route.

Unfortunately, this Trail is not suitable for dogs due to the busy city centre.

You can park in any of the central car parks to be within a short walking distance of the Trail start point.

There are some fantastic events in Canterbury’s calendar, all of which are great times to visit this beautiful city. However, you may find that some of the clues on this Trail become obstructed or difficult to access on these occasions. Please check for events before setting off

There are public toilets available in the cathedral between Clues 06-07, and the route passes several pubs and a few cafes along the way.

Looking for more things to do in Canterbury? Make a day of it and visit Canterbury Historic River Tours or one of the Canterbury museums to discover more about this city. You could even challenge yourself to our other Canterbury Trail and let out your inner slippery spy!
