Once again, the North East is under threat from the evil Dr Mak Hehm. This time, he has set his sights on the top attraction along the Newcastle Gateshead Quayside, determined to destroy it and lure visitors to his own sinister attractions. But fear not-our top agent, Jim Pond, has uncovered his plan and deciphered the deactivation code. Unfortunately, he was forced to leave a trail of clues before he could reach the device and was fatally shaken and stirred by the doctor's henchmen. Now it's up to YOU to follow Pond's trail, crack the code, and save the day.

Before You Set Off
Please Note: There is a popular Market held on Sundays along the route of this Trail that can restrict access to some of the clues.
Navigating The Route
This is a mostly flat, circular spy mission along the Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside, with agents following pavements and riverside paths throughout.
The route is generally straightforward and accessible, though there are a couple of short inclines where assistance may be needed. Stay alert near roads and crossings, and keep a close eye on the team around the river’s edge - even top agents shouldn’t take unnecessary risks!
Getting There
Time to deploy your agents and begin the operation:
The Guildhall, Quayside (NE1 3AF) - Your official mission start point, close to bus stops for services Q1 and Q2.
The Sage Gateshead Car Park (NE8 2BA) - A good parking option on the Gateshead side of the river, with easy access to the Trail.
Need the Loo?
Even elite agents need a quick comfort break!
Toilets can be found inside the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art on the Gateshead side of the route. There are also plenty of cafés and pubs along both sides of the Quayside if you need to refuel mid-mission.
Bring Your Furry Sidekicks
Four-legged agents are welcome to join your mission. With wide riverside paths and open areas, it’s a great route for dogs - just keep leads handy near roads and busy sections.
Safe Zones & Refuelling Stops
There are several cafés along the Newcastle side of the river, plus a handy shop near Clue 05 if you need to top up supplies. Alternatively, pack a picnic and enjoy a riverside bench while keeping watch for suspicious activity.

Art, Culture & Quayside Life
From the Baltic Centre to public sculptures and historic buildings, there’s plenty to explore along the route. The Quayside has transformed from an industrial hub into a vibrant waterfront - perfect cover for undercover agents.
Pubs, Cafés & Agent Refuelling
With loads of great pubs and cafés along the way, this Trail is ideal for a relaxed mission with plenty of opportunities to pause, plan and celebrate your success once the case is cracked.
