The Tale of the Cock and The Bull - A Treasure Hunt in Stony Stratford
Set on the historic Roman road of Watling Street, the quaint town of Stony Stratford has been a popular stop for travelling monarchs, military personnel, and even highwaymen. Along the way, many inns opened their doors to cater to weary travellers, including The Cock and The Bull. Legend has it that in the late 17th century, wealthy landowner Ivor Lott was robbed of a chest of gold bars while staying at one of these inns on his way to London. But with the inns being notorious for tall tales, no one believed his story. Now, it's up to YOU to prove Ivor's innocence and uncover the truth by following the Clues and locating the missing treasure. But be warned, a gang of greedy looters known as the Gold Diggers will stop at nothing to get their hands on Ivor Lott's fortune first!

As you follow the Trail route, you'll solve sneaky clues hidden on existing buildings, permanent features, and monuments to discover the location of the buried treasure.
This circular Trail starts in the historic Market Square and explores the Town Centre and the peaceful oasis of Millfield. Known as 'The Jewel of Milton Keynes', Stony Stratford has retained much of its historical character and remains a lively market town. Can you solve the clues and follow the Trail to discover the location of Ivor Lott's stolen gold bars and prove that the local landowner was telling the truth?

With its fine catalogue of arts, music and; literature festivals, a rich variety of entertainment and social events, along with a Christmas lights display the envy of the area, Stony Stratford is well worthy of a visit! Mentioned in Shakespeare, Stony Stratford has been visited by the most famous people in British history, including a number of kings and queens; the diarist Samuel Pepys; the writers Charles Dickens; Defoe and George Eliot; Samuel Johnson, the compiler of the world's first dictionary. Another visitor was the famous preacher John Wesley, who addressed local people under the old elm tree, now replaced by a new oak tree in the Market Square.
There are numerous historic pubs, cafes and restaurants to choose from as you make your way around the Trail, and Millfield, about half way around the Trail, provides the perfect picnic spot
