What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

Please Note:

This Trail takes you around the picturesque market town of Hawes and the neighbouring village of Gayle. Parts of the Trail follow country paths across fields, providing stunning views of the surrounding Wensleydale countryside, so suitable footwear is recommended.

There are several picnic opportunities along the route and a children's playground halfway round. Refreshments are available at numerous establishments in Hawes. There are public conveniences near the start and in the middle of the Trail.

Extend your trip:

Visits to the Wensleydale Creamery, the Ropemakers and the Dales Countryside Museum can be added to make a day of it. Nearby Hardraw Force, said to be England's highest unbroken waterfall at 100ft, is also worth a visit.

Getting there / parking:

The Trail starts in the Gayle Lane car park in the centre of Hawes. Alternative parking is available at the Dales Countryside Museum.

There are several bus services from surrounding towns and villages serving Hawes and Gayle.
