The Missing Roman Gladiator Gold - Can YOU Uncover It?
Famous Roman gladiator, Julius Winalot, was the champion of all gladiators. Each year he entered every gladiator tournament, taking on all comers and winning absolutely everything, amassing an enormous fortune in gold! Alas, Julius was unexpectedly summoned back to Rome to deal with some very serious gladiatorial stuff and so stashed his riches deep within Chester's city walls. Before leaving, he managed to scribble down some notes and sketch a map to where this stash was located. However, fortunately for us, Julius never returned to Chester and to this day this treasure trove has remained undiscovered.

Before You Set Off
Before You Set Off
Before you set off on your awesome adventure to explore Chester, there are a few things you need to know...
Occasionally, sections of the walls may need to be closed off for maintenance. We do our very best to keep abreast of such work but please ask you to follow any diversions or instructions that such work may cause.
The route isn’t friendly for wheelchair users and pushchairs. This is due to narrow alleyways and walkways, as well as steps, included along the route.
Bring your four-legged friends along! This Trail is suitable for dogs, but they will need to be kept on leads in the Roman Amphitheatre, and throughout busier parts of the Trail.
The closest long stay pay and display car park to the Trail start point is at Linenhall Car Park (CH1 2NX), just a six minute walk away. Or why not try Chester’s fantastic Park and Ride service?
There are some fantastic events in Chester’s calendar, all of which are great times to visit this beautiful city. However, you may find that some of the clues on this Trail become obstructed or difficult to access on these occasions. Please check for events before setting off.
There are public toilets available near Clues 08 and 13, and the route passes several pubs and a few cafes along the way.
