Hopeful Hunt for Horrible Hairy's Hidden Hoard!
Oh what a calamity… Horrible Hairy John, the infamous pirate and smuggler, has found himself in a little bit of a pickle! He thought he was being super smart when he decided to paint his hoard of golden pebbles a pebbly colour, so they looked just like errr… pebbles! Believe me, it seemed like a pretty good idea at the time. Anyway, you'll never guess what? Yup, he's only gone and lost them on Brighton beach when he buried the golden pebbles for safekeeping whilst enjoying a lovely picnic with his ruthless crew. Luckily, he wasn't that stupid - he also drew a beautiful picture showing where the hoard was buried. Unfortunately, the other problem is he buried this drawing on Skull Island and has completely forgotten where that is as well…
Treasure Hunt Through Brighton's Seafront and Promenade
Ahoy, me hearties!
We need you for a self-guided Treasure Hunt adventure along Brighton's shores. Hunt high and low along the promenade, taking in the spectacular sights of this bustling seaside resort. You'll even uncover fascinating stories (including how salty sea water was once used as medicine)!
But Brighton has a sparkling secret…
Infamous pirate, Hairy John, has been a little bit silly and has got himself in a bit of a jam! Thinking it would be a fun idea (and wanting a way to pass the time) he decided to paint his nuggets of gold to look like pebbles. And, then he lost them on Brighton beach… Luckily, he drew a map of his favourite beach spots where the hoard may be found. Can you solve the clues and pinpoint the nuggets so Hairy John can claim his stash?

Before You Set Off
Before You Set Off
Before you set off on your awesome adventure, there are a few things you need to know...
The route should be okay for those with pushchairs but the last clue is down a small series of steps, so wheelchair users will struggle.
Bring your four-legged friends along! Dogs are permitted on all Brighton beaches from 1st October to 30th April. In the summer months, they are permitted along the upper and lower promenade on leads but can only run on specified dog-friendly beaches.
The closest long stay pay and display car parks to the Trail start point are at The Lanes (BN1 1ND) or the High Street (BN2 1RW), just a two minute walk away. Alternatively, Brighton has a great park and ride service operating from Withdean Sports Complex.
There are some fantastic events in Brighton's calendar, all of which are great times to visit this beautiful town. However, you may find that some of the clues on this Trail may become obstructed or difficult to access on these occasions. If you would like further information about event dates, please contact Brighton's Visitor Information.
There are public toilets available towards the beginning of the Trail, and the route passes refreshment stops along the way. The beach makes a great picnic spot if the weather is nice!
Why not make a day of it and experience the wonders of Brighton Palace Pier, or stroll along the beach with an ice cream in hand? You could even try one of our other Brighton Trails if you're seeking another adventure!
