Steel Yourself – A Sharp-Witted Mystery Awaits!
Once famed for its razor-sharp reputation, Shotley Bridge was the swordsmithing capital of Britain - until recently, when its star artefact vanished on the eve of a big museum reveal! The legendary "Solingen Special" - a blade so bendy, it makes spaghetti jealous - has gone missing, leaving behind only its cushion, a dazed bodyguard, and a strong whiff of betrayal...
DCI Bluntie Shears is on the case. She's got a fringe like a fencing accident and a hunch that foul play's afoot. But she needs YOU - top-notch detectives - to follow the Trail, slice through red herrings and skewer the culprit before the town's proud history goes blunt!

Before You Set Off
Before You Set Off
Before you embark on your cutting-edge investigations around Shotley Bridge, here are a few handy tips...
Mixed Terrain - The route around this village includes steep hills right from the off, some steps, paths and narrow pavements so unfortunately is not suitable for wheelchair or pushchair users.
Just a heads-up - some sections of the route may be muddy wet and particularly slippery after rainfall, particularly the hill at the start / end - we strongly recommend suitable footwear!
Parking Sorted! - You’ve got a couple of options for parking at the start point, all detailed within the Trail booklet: The Church Hall (DH8 0NW - W3W: ///sleeps.gently.only) where your case begins does have some limited parking. If that is full, on-street parking along the hill beside the Hall is also available.
Refuelling Points - There aren't many options for hungry detectives around Shotley Bridge! There's a small local Premier shop on St Cuthbert's Avenue, (DH8 0LR) which is about a five minute walk from the start point.
You'll pass two pubs on the route of the Trail, so maybe you could budget some extra time to pop in if you are peckish! You have the choice of Kings Head Social Club, (DH8 0HX) at Clue 10, or Crown and Crossed Swords Hotel, (DH8 0HU) at Clue 16.
If those don't tickle your fancy, we'd suggest packing a picnic or snacks, as there's a nice little seating area at the end of the Trail.
Need the Loo? – Unfortunately, there are no public toilets available along the route of this Trail. Your best bet is to try one of the local pubs that will have facilities for customers.
Want to extend your visit?
Because Shotley Bridge is a short-sword's throw away from Consett town centre, you could always pop along there once you've completed your inquiries! If you need another leafy fix, why not bob into Consett Park?
