Make a stealth-tastic day of it
Pre-mission prep
Before you start powering up your gadgets and monitoring the intel, it’s vital that you’re prepared for a day of code-cracking and super sly observation.
Fuel up
As well as a healthy breakfast to ensure you can keep your wits about you at all times, make sure all your tech is fully charged. Pack a battery pack and charger cables in case of power outages.
Get kitted out
You need to blend into your surroundings and remain incognito, so avoid any crazy high-tech outfits and settle for something normal looking. You’ll need to take your spy gadgets with you – think pockets, lots of pockets! If enemies are closing in, you’ll need to make a quick escape to avoid jeopardising the mission, so make sure your outfit is easy to move in and your shoes are comfy and quiet – no squeaky or clacky soles.
Limber up
If you’ve not been out on an assignment in a while, you might be a little rusty! Before you leave, have a good shake out, limb by limb, and practice slyly looking up, down, left and right for some subtle surveillance. Then, quickly jump left and right a few times to dodge out of view from enemy agents. Practice ducking out of sight while tinkering with your gadgets – keep low and stay alert. Finally, a brisk 30 seconds of chasing after enemies on the spot will do the trick!

Pick your secret agent codename
You never know how many criminal masterminds and enemy operatives could be on your tail, trying to thwart your mission.
To avoid giving away your identity and drawing attention to yourself, you’ll need to choose a codename. Make sure all super smart secret agents in your team have their own codename and that you refer to them with that name at all times!
Out on your top-secret Trail
Top Trailing tips
You tend to hang back and analyse every piece of intel you receive. While this is an excellent strategy, you may want to delegate some tasks to your team to expedite matters. You see things from all angles but must remember not to overthink the clues – some may be as simple as they seem!
Act like the slipperiest spy
Every time you spot a clue, call out the codeword, “The badger has bolted”.
Make sure to do some extra ‘fake’ pen strokes as you fill in your answer grid. Any drones overhead will be confused and not pick up your entries.
Keep a lookout for…
Red or green flashing lights or anything that moves as you sneak past it – hidden surveillance cameras could be anywhere. Also, pay attention to anyone in dark glasses appearing to talk to themselves.
Back at the lab
Submit your answer
To close the mission, you need to find out whether you’ve successfully saved the day or whether your gadgets need an upgrade before the task can be completed. So, don’t delay – submit your answer to see if your strategy paid off!
Grab some grub
After putting all your gadgets on charge, recharge yourself by ensuring adequate amounts of protein, carbohydrates, fats and essential nutrients.

After a hard day saving the world, you deserve to relax and recharge your batteries so you’ll be ready for the next dangerous operation.

Use your gadgets to scan for the best spot on the sofa and gather your fellow agents for some super spy films – you can’t beat a bit of Jason Bourne in The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) for the big spies, while Penguins of Madagascar (2014) is a great spy option for younger agents. To learn more about the brilliant code-breakers who came before you, try The Imitation Game (2014).
If you’d rather curl up with a good book, Spy School (Stuart Gibbs, 2013) or the Gallagher Girls series (Ally Carter, 2006) is a great read to get younger operatives ready for their next mission. The Hunt for Red October (Tom Clancy, 1984) will keep the adults entertained with some classic spy escapades or add a dose of fantasy with The Invisible Library (Genevieve Cogman, 2015).
