Legend has it that the village of Saltaire holds a secret - the location of the shiny Saltaire Silver Salt Cellar. Many have dismissed this story as mere myth, but when the remains of the infamous pirate Captain Salty Brine were discovered, a treasure map and scribbled notes were found clutched in his bony fingers. Could this be the key to uncovering the secret?

Now, the Intrepid Explorers Society (IES) is seeking brave adventurers to take on the challenge and find the buried treasure. Are you ready to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Captain Salty Brine and uncover the truth?

Treasure Hunt Through Saltaire - World Heritage Village

Embark on a self-guided treasure hunt through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Saltaire. Starting and finishing at Saltaire Station, this route will take you through the beautifully designed village that once served as a home for workers at Titus Salt's textile mill. As you explore the stunning architecture and lush park at the end of the Trail, keep your eyes peeled for sneaky clues hidden on existing buildings, permanent features, and monuments.

  • Ideal for discovering more about where you live or exploring somewhere new
  • Trails are done in your own time at your own pace
  • This Trail is approximately 1.8 miles long and takes 2 hours to complete

Please Note:

The route around Saltaire is flat and level, including footpaths level pavements. There are two very short sections on cobbles which are fairly even. The Trail is marked as fully accessible. Wheelchair users may need to detour slightly to lowered kerbs at some points on the route and there is one very short section of cobbles at the start of the Trail.

There are public toilets near the start of the Trail, in Caroline Street Car Park.

A range of cafes for refreshment can be found in the middle section of the Trail. The Trail finishes in Roberts Park which has a cafe and is also a great place for a picnic.

Please note - you do not need to enter Salts Mill to solve any of the clues. However, it's a fantastic place to stop off at when you are passing. If you plan on combining your Trail with a visit, please check the latest opening days and hours here. Salts Mill is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

We have three super duper themed Clubs for your child to enjoy as part of their Treasure Trail experience.

Perfect for 4-8 year olds, the concept behind the Clubs is that your child will get a bundle of goodies to excite them about their forthcoming Trail experience, something to keep them entertained whilst travelling to and from the Trail, and something to be given on completion of the Trail as a keepsake.
