The Mysterious Treasure of Weymouth Harbour

A long, long time ago, in July 1588 to be precise, the Spanish Armada approached Portland with the galleon "San Salvador" among them. But before they could reach their destination, the San Salvador mysteriously exploded. The curious English fleet brought her into Weymouth Harbour for closer inspection and to their amazement, they found chests of gold and silver on board. Rumour has it that the treasure was hidden in the many passageways and tunnels that are supposed to be under the high ground and the Nothe Penninsular. But now, after restoration work in the harbour, an old, weathered map and a set of scrawled clues have been revealed. The Exploration Society has reached out to the TOP Treasure Seekers for help in unearthing the hidden, historical hoard. Do YOU have what it takes to follow the clues and discover the truth behind this mysterious treasure?

Treasure Hunt Through Weymouth - Harbour & Coast Path

What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

Navigating The Route

This is a circular coastal expedition through Weymouth’s harbour, historic streets and out towards the Nothe Peninsula, with explorers following pavements, paths and some garden and coastal routes.

There are a few twists, turns and sections with steps along the way, particularly near Nothe Fort and the harbour edges, so take care underfoot and keep a close eye on your crew near the water.

Getting There

Gather your expedition team and prepare to set sail for treasure:

By car: Find parking at Harbour end of Trinity Street (DT4 8TW) - The official starting point of your quest, or Newton’s Road Car Park (DT4 8US) - A handy pay and display option just behind Brewers Quay, close to the start of your adventure.

By public transport: Weymouth is served by buses from nearby towns, and the train station is a 20-minute walk from the start point.

Need the Loo?

Even seasoned treasure hunters need to plan their pit stops! Toilets can be found near the start of the Trail and again around Nothe Fort later in the route.

Bring Your Furry Sidekicks

Four-legged explorers are welcome to join the adventure 🐾

There are plenty of open paths and coastal sections to enjoy, but keep leads handy near roads, busy harbour areas and cliffside paths.

Essential Intel - Supplies & Seaside Strategy

There are opportunities to grab refreshments near the start of your quest, but options become limited as you head further along the route - so it’s wise to stock up early or bring your own supplies.

Nothe Gardens (around Clues 12–13) and the area near the Fort make excellent picnic spots if your crew needs to refuel before the final push to the treasure.
