Squirrel Jitterkins and the Lost Golden Acorn
Many years ago, a local treasure hunter named Finn Des Keepas lived in a humble forest hut. He was known for his ability to unearth remarkable trinkets and treasures, which he proudly displayed in his magnificent Cabinet of Curiosities. However, one day, the precious golden acorn vanished, and Finn was devastated. He destroyed his cabinet, packed up, and left in despair. It was believed to be the work of thieves, but an old diary found by Squirrel Jitterkins in a tree hollow revealed the truth. Her great-great-great-great grandfather, Squirrel A. Way, had confessed to taking the acorn, thinking it was a tasty treat. Too embarrassed to return it, he left behind a map and clues for future generations. Now, Squirrel Jitterkins needs your help to clear her family's name and find the missing acorn!
Join Squirrel Jitterkins on this exciting self-guided treasure hunt through Moors Valley. Explore the forest, solve the clues, and uncover the golden acorn that has been hidden for so long.

Before You Set Off
Before You Set Off
Navigating The Route
This is a circular Treasure Hunt through Moors Valley Country Park and Forest, with explorers following woodland paths, forest tracks and play trails as they track down the missing golden acorn.
The route includes narrow paths, tree roots and some short steep sections, so it is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
Important: You will be sharing paths with cyclists and other forest users, and walking across uneven ground with roots and occasional slopes, so explorers should watch their footing, stay alert at all times and keep younger adventurers under close supervision. Stick to marked paths and take care on muddier sections.
Getting There
Time to gather your explorers and begin the quest:
By car: Park at the Visitor Centre (parking charges apply).
By public transport: Public transport options to the park are limited but possible. Local bus no.38 from Ringwood or Ferndown stops at Lions Lane near the entrance, around 20-minutes walk from the Visitor Centre.
Need the Loo?
Even the most determined explorers need a quick pit stop! Toilets are available at the Visitor Centre at the start and finish of your adventure, and there is also a smaller café with facilities just after Clue 06, giving you a handy mid-quest option too.
Bring Your Furry Sidekicks
Four-legged explorers are welcome on the quest 🐾
With miles of woodland paths to explore, it’s a fantastic outing for dogs. They should be kept on a lead in the car park, near the play areas and near wildlife rich areas, but are otherwise free to stretch their legs. There is a dog-wash facility if they get super-muddy sniffing out some of the clues!
Food & Drink Stops
Treasure hunting is hungry work! There is a café at the Visitor Centre, plus another smaller stop just after Clue 06, but it’s still wise to bring snacks and drinks with you as you head deeper into the forest.
Great picnic spots can be found after Clue 05, after Clue 06 and at the Lookout (around Clue 12) - perfect for a mid-quest refuel.
