The Lost Crown of Mary Queen of Scots - Can YOU Find It?

Many, many years ago, a priceless bejewelled crown belonging to Mary Queen of Scots was mislaid! Legend has it that the Queen entrusted this sparkly headwear to her faithful servant, Ivor Getware, to take to a nearby jewellers to be cleaned and reset. Ivor dutifully did as he was told but on the way back home, tripped on a kerbstone, banged his head and dropped the bag containing the crown. After coming round, Ivor staggered back to the Palace of Holyroodhouse with no recollection of what he'd been up to. As you can imagine, the Queen was NOT impressed! As time went by, Ivor started recalling odd hints of places he may or may not have visited. He noted them down but, to date, no one has been able to make head nor tail of them; any searchers have simply returned empty-headed. Could YOU be the lucky explorers who finally discover where Ivor lost the crown?

What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

Before you set off on your awesome adventure, there are a few things you need to know...

The Gardens at Clue 08 are locked at night, so make sure you leave plenty of daylight hours to complete your adventure!

Unfortunately, the route is not suitable for wheelchair users due to steep hills and cobbles encountered along the way but should be doable with a sturdy pushchair (and someone willing to push!).

There is a section of clues located in an area where dogs aren't allowed, so please don't bring your four-legged friends along unless a member of your group can wait with them at these clues.

The closest long stay pay and display car park to the start of the Trail is at Waverley Station (EH8 8BH), just a 10-minute walk away. Or why not try one of Edinburgh's fantastic Park and Ride services?

There are some fantastic events in Edinburgh's calendar, all of which are great times to visit this beautiful city. However, you may find that some of the clues on this Trail may become obstructed or difficult to access on these occasions - especially during the Fringe Festival. If you would like further information about event dates, please contact Edinburgh Visitor Information.

Public toilets are available not far from the start of the Trail at Waverley Station or in Holyrood Park just behind the Palace. There is also a myriad of cafes, restaurants, pubs and other eating establishments throughout the route.

Why not make a day of it by visiting The People's Story Museum, The King's Gallery, Scottish Storytelling Centre, Dynamic Earth, Museum of Edinburgh or Museum of Childhood along the way? You could even challenge yourself to another Trail adventure to uncover more twisting tales about this amazing city!
