What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

Before you set off on your awesome adventure to explore Chelmsford, there are a few things you need to know…

The route is friendly for wheelchair users and pushchairs.

Bring your four-legged friends along! Please note that it is a busy city centre so dogs will need to be kept on leads.

The closest long stay pay and display car park to the Trail start point is at Townfield Street (CM1 1QX), just a three-minute walk away.

There are some fantastic events in Chelmsford’s calendar, all of which are great times to visit this beautiful city. However, you may find that some of the clues on this Trail become obstructed or difficult to access on these occasions. Please check for any events before setting off.

There are public toilets available towards the start and at Clues 06, 14 and 16. The route passes several pubs, shops, restaurants and cafes before Clue 13, with a scattering of refreshment options after that. The stretch between Clues 13-17 have plenty of spots for picnics.

Looking for more things to do in Chelmsford? Make a day of it and visit the cathedral or head south of the city centre to visit the Chelmsford Museums. You could even challenge yourself to our Chelmsford Historic Waterways Trail and let out your inner treasure seeker!
