Top secret!

We've got a mission for you in

Cambridge

Attention all Secret Agents! Cambridge's most beloved chefs, Sue Flay and Scott Chegg, have been kidnapped! They were last seen finishing the final draft of their latest cookbook, 1001 Things To Do With Eggs, before being snatched and taken away in a van. The ransom note, sent to their publisher Warren Peace, demands that their book be edited to replace all mentions of eggs with bacon. It's signed by the mysterious L.O.E.A. We've traced the note to an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of Cambridge, heavily guarded by what appears to be…chickens? It's time for YOU to put your spy skills to the test and rescue the chefs!

Spy Mission Through Cambridge - River Cam & Common

Get ready to go undercover on a self-guided spy mission through the beautiful city of Cambridge, agents! Your mission is to track down the chefs and crack the code to enter the warehouse where they're being held captive. Your journey will take you through some of the city's iconic open spaces, including Midsummer Common and the scenic 'boat house' section of the River Cam. Keep your eyes peeled for sneaky clues along the way as you decipher the code to save the chefs.

But be careful, agents! The pressure is on and the clock is ticking. The fate of the chefs and their beloved cookbook rests in your hands. Will YOU be able to crack the code and rescue them in time?

More Information:

Before you set off on your awesome adventure to explore Cambridge, there are a few things you need to know...

This Trail is part of a set that covers Cambridge. You can see which area each Trail covers by clicking this link and downloading the Trail territory PDF.

Navigating The Route

This is a circular spy mission through Cambridge city centre, open green spaces and along the River Cam, with agents following pavements, pedestrian streets, park edges and riverside paths as they gather intel to rescue the kidnapped chefs.

The route follows mostly flat pavements and well maintained paths, making it suitable for both wheelchairs and pushchairs, though there are sections beside open water and across large open spaces that require care.

⚠️ Important: You will be travelling along busy roads, crossing points and shared-use paths with cyclists (very fast ones!), so agents should stay alert at all times, use crossings where available and keep Mini Agents under close supervision.

Take extra care near the river and open Common areas, where there are unfenced edges and moving bikes.

Getting There

Time to deploy your agents and begin the mission:

By car: Grafton West Car Park (CB1 1HE) is the closest option to the start point.

By public transport: Cambridge is well served by bus and rail links, with the city centre within easy walking distance of transport hubs. Park & Ride is also a good undercover option for approaching the mission zone.

Your mission begins outside Eden Chapel at the corner of Fair Street and New Square (CB1 1ER) - so check for tailing agents and start scanning for your first piece of intel straight away.

Need the Loo?

Even elite agents need a quick comfort break!

Toilets can be found in the Grafton Centre before you begin and later on Midsummer Common just after Clue 13, so it’s worth timing your stop as you progress through the mission.

Bring Your Furry Sidekicks

Four-legged agents are welcome on this mission 🐾

With a mix of city streets, open green spaces and riverside paths, it’s a great outing for canine companions - just keep leads handy near roads, cyclists and along the water’s edge.

Food & Drink Stops

Agents, plan your supplies carefully!

There are good opportunities to stock up before you begin or refuel just after Clue 08, with plenty of options nearby.

If you’re packing a picnic, Christ’s Pieces (around Clue 05) or the Common later in the mission make excellent safe zones to pause and regroup.

Want to Make a Day of It?

River Cam and Riverside Patrols

The River Cam provides a scenic and slightly more exposed stretch of your mission - perfect for undercover movement… if you keep your footing.

Commons, Parks and Open Space

From Christ’s Pieces to Midsummer Common, you’ll pass through wide open areas that give the mission a very different feel from the tighter city streets.

Colleges, History and Hidden Corners

Cambridge’s historic colleges and winding streets offer plenty of intrigue - exactly the sort of place where a secret organisation might try to scramble the truth…

Mini Secret Agent Club

We have three super duper themed Clubs for your child to enjoy as part of their Treasure Trail experience.

Perfect for 4-8 year olds, the concept behind the Clubs is that your child will get a bundle of goodies to excite them about their forthcoming Trail experience, something to keep them entertained whilst travelling to and from the Trail, and something to be given on completion of the Trail as a keepsake.
