A trail of clues awaits in

Barton-under-Needwood

Tommy Rustle was once a wealthy merchant, known for his monopoly on the silk trade. But upon his death, his fortune mysteriously vanished without a trace! That is, until last week when a dredger on the River Trent discovered an ancient bottle containing a map drawn on silk. Could this be the key to finding Tommy's lost treasure?

Join the Exploration Society's top treasure seekers as they embark on a fun, family-friendly adventure through the charming village of Barton-under-Needwood. Your task is to crack the clues and pinpoint the spot where Tommy stashed his wealth. But be warned, this treasure hunt will be no easy feat!

PLEASE NOTE - this is a scatter style treasure hunt with no directions to follow but a map to guide the way!

More Information:

Essential Intel - Scatter Hunt Mode - No Set Route!

This isn’t your usual follow-the-directions expedition... this is a scatter-style Treasure Hunt, where you’re in charge of your own adventure! There are no step-by-step directions to follow - instead, each clue is linked to a location shown on your treasure map. You can tackle them in any order you like, hopping between spots as you explore the village.

Keep your eyes peeled for the research images, as they’ll guide you to the right places. Each answer lets you eliminate a location from your map, narrowing down where the treasure is hidden. Plot your own route, think like a true explorer, and enjoy the freedom to roam - just don’t let any rival treasure hunters beat you to the final spot!

Navigating The Route

This Treasure Hunt takes place around Barton-under-Needwood village centre, with explorers roaming between clue locations using their map rather than fixed directions. You’ll be following pavements and village streets, with some sections near busy roads and areas of open water, so stay alert and keep your team close. A careful explorer always watches their step as well as their clues!

Getting There

Time to park up and begin your expedition:

Village Hall Car Park (DE13 8AF) - The main starting point for your treasure hunt.

Barton Turns Marina (DE13 8DZ) - An alternative parking spot with a short walk into the village to begin your quest.

Either way, you’ll be ready to dive straight into your scatter-style search for hidden riches.

Need the Loo?

Even the most seasoned explorers need to plan their pit stops!

Public toilets can be found at the car park near the start and end of your Trail.

There are also opportunities to stop for refreshments along the main streets, so you can refuel and regroup as your quest unfolds.

Bring Your Furry Sidekicks

Four-legged explorers are welcome to join the adventure.

There are plenty of village paths and open areas to enjoy, but keep leads handy near roads and stay mindful around busier spots.

Perfect for 4-8 year olds, the concept behind the Clubs is that your child will get a bundle of goodies to excite them about their forthcoming Trail experience, something to keep them entertained whilst travelling to and from the Trail, and something to be given on completion of the Trail as a keepsake.
