Navigating The Route

This is a circular Detective Mystery around the beautiful village of Yetminster, with Detectives investigating ghostly goings-on after paranormal investigator Claire Voyant was found slumped near the Old School Gallery.

The case covers approximately 2 miles and should take around 2.5 hours to complete. You’ll explore village streets, old buildings, the railway platform, St Andrew’s Church grounds and quiet residential areas while narrowing down the living suspects and clearing Miss Yeti’s spooky name.

This Trail is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, although there is a small step into the church grounds near Benjamin Jesty’s old home. Detectives using wheels can use the front entrance instead. Take care on village roads, pavements and around the railway platform.

Getting There

Time to gather your squad and begin this spectral investigation:

By car - Come into Yetminster from Sherborne on the A352, enter the village, turn right into Brierley Hay and then left into Sussex Farm Way. Park in the car park on the left, opposite the Scout building (DT9 6SZ). To begin your inquiries, walk along the path with the allotments on your left.

By public transport - Make your way into Yetminster village, then head for the car park opposite the Scout building on Sussex Farm Way to begin the investigation.

Need the Loo?

Even brave ghost-hunters need a comfort break, but there are no public toilets on this route, so plan ahead before setting off. There are limited facilities in the village, and once the case is underway your squad will need to keep going until the mystery is solved.

This village route includes pavements, quiet roads, church grounds and the railway platform area. Keep canine colleagues close throughout, especially near roads, the railway and the platform edge. The warning at the platform is worth taking seriously - no eager sniffer dog should be allowed to charge ahead in search of clues.

Food & Drink Stops

Solving a ghostly village mystery can stir up a very real appetite.

Refreshment stops are limited along the route, so it’s worth packing snacks and water before you begin. After Clue 16, there is a short detour to a Spar shop if you need to stock up. The Old School House also offers tea, snacks and craft items, making it a handy place to pause if your squad needs a breather.

The route passes The Old School House, where you can stop for a cup of tea, a snack and a look at the craft items on sale. It’s a fitting pause point for a case with spooky links to the Old School Gallery.

St Andrew’s Church

The investigation takes you into the grounds of St Andrew’s Church, which has some wonderfully quirky historic details. Look out for its medieval carving of a fox being hanged by geese, plus the 300-year-old faceless clock that still chimes with plenty of voice.

The Railway Inn and Tulip Tree

The route passes near the Railway Inn, where a rare Tulip Tree stands in the grounds. Local stories say a previous owner brought it from North America, with two companion trees supposedly planted at Kew Gardens. True or not, it’s a leafy little mystery within the mystery.
