The Hunt for Cat Berglagh's Treasure!

A priceless, gold relic dating back to the times of King Alfred the Great has been stolen from Winchester Cathedral. The thief, who goes by the alias Cat Berglagh, has hidden the treasure in a secret location and requested a huge ransom for its safe return. Desperate to recover their most prized possession, but reluctant to reward Cat for her misdeeds, the keeper of the Cathedral's treasures, Gus Toadian, is pulling his hair out. The police have drawn a blank and Cat's true identity remains a mystery. Like her namesake, she is stealthy, clever and enjoys taunting her prey. Can you, our most intrepid treasure hunters, thwart Cat's greedy plan by finding the Clues she left behind and locating where the priceless relic is hidden?

What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

Before you set off on your awesome adventure, there are a few things you need to know...

This route is friendly for wheelchair users and pushchairs, but please note that you will encounter cobbles, and wheelchair users may need to seek assistance or an alternative route to access the riverside from the road.

Bring your four-legged friends along! This Trail follows a dog-friendly route.

The closest long stay pay and display car parks to the Trail start point are at Colebrook Street (SO23 9LH) or at Chesil Street (SO23 0HU), both just a five-minute walk away.

There are some fantastic events in Winchester's calendar, including the amazing Christmas Markets and several fab festivals. During these events, some of the clues may become obstructed or difficult to access, in particular Clues 14 and 15, which cannot be accessed during the Christmas Markets. If you would like further information about event dates, please contact Winchester Visitor Information.

There are public toilets available towards the beginning and end of the Trail, and the route passes several pubs, restaurants and a few cafes along the way. If the weather is nice, the Abbey Gardens and Weir riverside are lovely picnic spots.

Why not make a day of it and look inside Winchester Cathedral and Wolvesey Castle, or take a tour around Winchester College! You could even try one of our several other fascinating Trails, including two spooky Trails that feature Winchester's haunted sites.
