Navigating The Route

This is a circular Treasure Hunt through Wick, with Explorers following clues to uncover where sharp legal mind Ms Sue Yoo hid her fortune before vanishing without a trace.

The quest covers approximately 2.2 miles and should take around 2 hours to complete. You’ll explore Wick Church of Scotland St Fergus, High Street, Bridge Street, Ebenezer Place, Union Street, Bank Row, the harbour and the riverside path beside the River Wick.

This Trail is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs, as the riverside path is uneven in places. The route also includes busy road crossings, harbour areas, unfenced edges, ropes, uneven surfaces and riverside sections, so keep your crew close and watch your footing while hunting for Sue’s hidden fortune.

Getting There

Time to gather your crew and begin the search for Sue’s golden stash:

By car - Begin your adventure in the Riverside car park at the foot of Saint Fergus Road (KW1 4EB), using ///plums.sour.develops. Take extra care while moving through the car park, keeping watch for vehicles as you get your bearings and prepare for the first clue.

By public transport - Make your way into Wick town centre, then head for the Riverside car park at the foot of Saint Fergus Road to begin the quest.

Need the Loo?

Even the sharpest treasure hunters need a comfort break before chasing legal loot through town. Public toilets are conveniently located near the car park at the start of the Trail, so it’s worth making use of them before you set off.

Bring Your Furry Sidekicks

Four-legged Explorers can join the hunt 🐾

This route includes town streets, harbour edges, riverside paths, bridges, parks and road crossings. Keep canine companions close throughout, especially near traffic, the harbour, unfenced waterside edges and the River Wick. No eager sniffer-dog should be allowed to bolt ahead, however convincing their treasure instincts may look.

Food & Drink Stops

Fortune-hunting can leave a crew feeling peckish.

Wick High Street has plenty of places to grab snacks or a bite to eat while tackling the earlier clues, especially around Clues 04 to 09. If you’ve packed supplies, Riverside Park makes a fine picnic spot once your hunt is complete and Sue’s fortune has finally been tracked down.

Wick Heritage Centre

The route passes Wick Heritage Centre, which is well worth a visit if your crew wants to dig deeper into local history. It’s nicely placed as the adventure moves from the High Street towards Bank Row and the harbour.

Bank Row and the Black Steps

Bank Row includes the famous Black Steps, captured by L S Lowry in his 1936 painting Steps at Wick. It’s a brilliant local-history nugget, turning an everyday corner into an unexpected splash of art-world intrigue.

Wick Harbour

The harbour section gives the quest a proper maritime flourish. Look out for old salt cellars, the marina, South Quay, harbour views and wildlife-filled waters. Take care around unfenced edges, ropes and uneven ground while your crew searches for Sue’s next clue.

River Wick and Riverside Park

The final stretch follows the River Wick towards the park, adding a greener, calmer finish to the adventure. Once the final clue is cracked, Riverside Park is a handy place to pause, picnic and decide whether your treasure-hunting instincts deserve a victory biscuit.
