Detective Mystery Trail
Dough or Die: The Wonder Bun Whodunnit!
In the 1800s, Warwick baker Betty Bakewell created the Wonder Bun, a treat so irresistible it was the talk of the Midlands. But when a rival baker from Leamington Spa stole her recipe, the towns became locked in a feud. Fast forward to today, and Warwick is holding the annual 'Great Bun Off' contest with a Wonder Bun shaped trophy. Just as baking got underway, the trophy vanished in a cloud of flour and mystery. DCI Chris P. Crust, known for his buttery smooth interrogation style, was called in. As he was inspecting the crime scone… err… we mean scene, he found a crumbly clue - a scrap of paper that suspiciously looked like the Wonder Bun recipe! Is someone baking up a plot to try and revive the rivalry between the towns? With a cast of flaky suspects the case is getting stickier by the hour. DCI Crust wants YOU to sift through the clues, separate the wheat from the chaff, and stop the crook before they pull the dough over everyone's eyes!

Navigating The Route
This is a circular investigation through Warwick’s historic town centre, castle surroundings and parkland, with detectives following pavements, paths and some roadside sections as they track down clues. There are uneven pavements, steps and varied terrain along the route, so it is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. You’ll also be working through some busier areas, so take care near roads and crossings, and keep your squad close as you patrol.
Getting There
Time to assemble your squad and open the case file:
St Nicholas Park Car Park, Banbury Road (CV34 4QY) - Your official investigation start point, right beside the park.
Need the Loo?
Even top detectives need a comfort break during a tricky case!
Toilets can be found near the start in the park, and again around Clue 10 as your investigation unfolds. There are also plenty of cafés and town centre stops along the route - ideal for a quick refuel while reviewing your evidence.
Bring Your Furry Sidekicks
Four-legged detectives are welcome on the case. With parkland and town paths to explore, there’s plenty to keep noses busy - just keep leads handy near roads and in busier areas.
Stakeouts & Snack Stops
There are plenty of places to pause along the route, including cafés in the town centre and a great picnic spot in the park near the start - perfect for a mid-investigation stakeout.
