Twyford - Millennium Gardens

Navigating The Route

This is a circular Treasure Hunt around Twyford in Berkshire, with Adventurers racing to uncover where Jack Pott buried Lord Oblivious’ lost bag of gold coins before the notorious Gold Diggers get there first.

The quest covers approximately 2.5 miles and should take around 2.5 hours to complete. You’ll follow clues through the village, along the Old Bath Road area, around churchyard paths, Millennium Gardens, Twyford Station, Jubilee Corner, recreation ground areas and back towards Polehampton Close.

This Trail is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. The route follows tarmacked paths throughout, but includes plenty of road crossings, busy areas near the railway station, a churchyard section, narrow moments and village streets where extra care is needed.

PLEASE NOTE - Dogs are not permitted in the churchyard, so four-legged Explorers will need to wait outside with a member of your crew while the rest of the team tackles those clues.

Getting There

Time to gather your crew and begin the race for Lord Oblivious’ gold:

By car - Your hunt begins near the small pay and display car park at Polehampton Close (RG10 9RP).

If that car park is full, you could try the larger, but more expensive, Twyford Station car park (RG10 9NA). From Polehampton Close, your first clue is nearby, so keep your treasure-hunting eyes sharp from the start.

By public transport - Make your way to Twyford Station, then head towards Polehampton Close to begin the adventure. The route later passes the station, so it’s a useful landmark while working your way around the village.

Need the Loo?

Even the boldest Adventurers need a comfort break during a coin-chasing quest. Public toilets can be found in Waitrose around Clue 19, near the later part of the route.

Bring Your Furry Sidekicks

Four-legged Explorers can join most of the adventure 🐾

This route includes village pavements, road crossings, station-area traffic, recreation ground paths and green spaces. As mentioned above, dogs are not allowed in the churchyard, so plan for one team member to wait outside with them during that section. Keep canine companions close throughout, especially near roads, the railway station and any busy village stretches.

Food & Drink Stops

Racing treasure thieves through Twyford can leave a crew properly peckish.

You’ll pass a variety of eating places along the way, or you can pack lunch and enjoy a picnic in the recreation ground around Clue 18. There’s a children’s playground, skateboard park and plenty of green space there, making it a handy refuelling base before the final clues.

Loddon Nature Reserve

Loddon Nature Reserve is a strong extra if your crew wants more wildlife and fresh air after the main quest. It covers about 13.5 hectares, includes a lake and is good for birdwatching, though it can flood in winter and get muddy after rain.

Twyford Recreation Ground

The recreation ground is ideal for stretching the adventure, especially with younger Explorers. There’s a children’s playground, skateboard park and plenty of open green space, making it a good picnic stop once the Gold Diggers have been safely outpaced.

Millennium Gardens

The quest leads through Millennium Gardens, where the metal globe structure gives the route one of its key moments. It’s a pleasant place to pause, regroup and let the treasure map rustle dramatically in the breeze.
