Stanhope - Riverside & Marketplace
This Trail is temporarily unavailable due to maintenance works in the churchyard at St Thomas the Apostle Church. The closure affects access to the final three clues, so we have taken the Trail offline while the work is taking place.
We’ll keep an eye on the situation and reopen the route as soon as the churchyard is accessible again. Thanks for your patience while this little route goblin is dealt with!
Detective Mystery Trail
The Case of the Missing Tourists in Stanhope
Things are not all well in the fair village of Stanhope. Several tourists have gone missing, only to be found wandering the Durham Dales, lost and without their valuables. The story they tell has some similarities-most have been lured into exploring Weardale's lead mines with a guide. But the guide is no ordinary tour guide-police think they are a scoundrel out to take advantage of the dark, confusing tunnels. Once lost and bewildered, the tourists are easily taken advantage of and robbed. The Stanhope police have identified several suspects linked to these dastardly deeds, and the Durham County C.I.D. has called in top detectives to help solve the case. Do YOU have what it takes to crack the clues and identify the true culprit?
