The Pirate's Treasure of St Davids

Is the secret to hidden treasure hidden within the walls of St Davids? Legends say that the infamous pirate, Captain Blackbeard, made his home in the city and stashed his fortune of gold coins and jewels on the nearby Puffin Island. But his ship was wrecked, and the whereabouts of his hideout remained unknown…until now!

It's time for a modern-day pirate adventure as you set off on a self-guided Treasure Hunt Trail through the winding backstreets of St Davids. Keep a sharp eye out for hidden gems and clues as you venture past the St Davids Cathedral and other historic landmarks.

But beware, this is not an easy hunt. The pirate's treasure is well-guarded, and only the most daring explorers will be able to solve the clues and uncover the precious hoard.

What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

Before you set off on your awesome adventure to explore St Davids (Tyddewi), there are a few things you need to know...

The route is friendly for wheelchair users and pushchairs.

Bring your four-legged friends along! This is a dog-friendly Trail.

The closest long-stay pay and display car park to the Trail start point is at Oriel Y Parc Visitor Centre (SA62 6NW, where your quest begins.

There are some fantastic events in St Davids’ calendar, all of which are fantastic times to visit this beautiful city. However, you may find that some of the clues on this Trail become obstructed or difficult to access on these occasions, especially on or around St David’s Day (1st March). Please check ahead before setting off on your adventure.

There are public toilets available at the Visitor centre year-round, plus near Clues 02 and 15 during the summer. The route passes several pubs, shops and a few cafes along the way. 

Looking for more things to do in St Davids? Make a day of it and visit Bishop’s Palace or take a peek inside Oriel y Parc to see some fantastic exhibitions. If you’re feeling adventurous, hop in your expedition vehicle and pay a visit to the nearby St Non’s Chapel, where it’s believed St David was born over 1,500 years ago!
