The Missing Cart of St. Thomas Becket - Can YOU Find the Treasure?

Long ago - in 1538, to be precise - St. Thomas Becket was far too popular, and he'd once stood up to the authority of a king! He had to go. So, King Henry VIII ordered the saint's ornate shrine to be destroyed, reducing it to a pile of rubble…and a heap of riches to claim! The royal records note the retrieval of 26 carts full of treasures - perfect for lining King Henry's pockets to pay for another wedding (or three). However, the Exploration Society has recently unearthed a worn map and an ancient manuscript that tells of a 27th cart stuffed with gold, silver, and precious jewels that never made it to the royal coffers! It seems a young lad swiped the last cart during the chaos and fled along the Pilgrim's Way to London, where he hid the haul. We need YOU - our TOP treasure seekers - to follow the Clues and pinpoint the stash spot for the priceless historical hoard. Good luck!

A Saintly Treasure Trove Through Southwark

Are you looking for something to do with family and friends or seeking a fun day out with the kids in Southwark?

Then why not explore Southwark on this self-guided treasure hunt themed Treasure Trail. As you follow the Trail route, can you solve the sneaky clues set on existing buildings, permanent features, and monuments to discover the location of the buried treasure?

The area of Southwark just south of London Bridge was also the head of the Pilgrim's Way from London to Canterbury. For hundreds of years, there have been many inns and trades related to horses and travel in this neighbourhood.

The Trail starts and ends close to London Bridge Station. The first clue is located inside Southwark Cathedral (free to enter for individuals and small groups).
