Navigating The Route

This is a driving Treasure Hunt through three charming Essex villages - Sible Hedingham, Wethersfield and Finchingfield - with Adventurers sniffing out clues to track down Malisha Sintent's stash of stolen diamante pet collars.

The quest takes around 2+ hours to complete, with approximately 7.7 miles of driving and 1 mile of walking in total. You'll solve clues on foot in each village, exploring churchyards, village streets, a duck pond, a footpath, a windmill area and some classic Essex scenery along the way.

There are steps, steep sections, uneven paths and narrow paths, so this Trail is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. You'll also encounter some narrow roads and short sections without pavements, so keep younger Explorers close and take extra care when moving between clues.

Getting There:

By car: Your quest begins at St Peter's Church on Church Road, Sible Hedingham (CO9 3NT), using W3W: ///toads.organic.credit.

On-road parking is available nearby on Church Street or Rectory Road, From there, head back to the church on foot to begin the first set of clues.

You'll then drive on to Wethersfield, parking near St Mary Magdalene Church on High Street (CM7 4BY), using W3W: ///passes.students.permit. The final section takes you to Finchingfield, where you can park by the village green (CM7 4JX), using W3W: ///dispose.tasks.visitors.

By public transport: This is designed as a driving Trail between three villages, so you'll need a vehicle to complete the route as planned.

Need the Loo?

Even the boldest collar-chasers need a comfort break now and then. Public toilets are available in Finchingfield on Stephen Marshall Avenue, towards the end of the quest. There are no public toilets in Sible Hedingham, so plan ahead before setting off. There MAY be toilets available at the church in Wethersfield but we wouldn't suggest relying on this!

Bring Your Furry Sidekicks

Four-legged Adventurers can join the hunt.

This village quest includes churchyards, pavements, narrow lanes, footpaths, roads, a duck pond and countryside edges, so keep canine companions close throughout. Tracker dogs should be kept on leads around Finchingfield duck pond, where the fence is not secure and wildlife roams freely - and extra care is needed near roads and sections without pavements.

Food & Drink Stops

Hunting for stolen pet bling can leave a crew feeling peckish!

Finchingfield is your best bet for refreshments towards the end of the Trail, with pubs, cafes and restaurants to choose from. It's worth bringing supplies too, especially as the first two villages have limited comfort-stop options and Malisha's clues are unlikely to solve themselves on an empty stomach!

St Peter's Church, Sible Hedingham
The quest begins at St Peter's Church, where Explorers start hunting for clues among the churchyard features. The church has links to a famous medieval soldier-for-hire and offers a strong historical start to the adventure.

St Mary Magdalene Church, Wethersfield
The Wethersfield section begins at St Mary Magdalene Church and its churchyard. The church hides some fascinating history, all waiting to be explored further.

Finchingfield Village Green and Duck Pond
Finchingfield gives the final part of the quest a proper postcard-perfect flourish, with the village green, duck pond and pretty surrounding buildings. Take extra care by the pond, especially with children and dogs, as the fence is not complete around it.

Finchingfield Post Mill and Footpath
The route heads up the public footpath towards Finchingfield Post Mill, giving Adventurers a chance to enjoy a more rural stretch of the village. There are steps and uphill sections here, so take your time and tread carefully as you explore.

Finchingfield Guildhall and Churchyard
Near the final stretch, the route passes through the Finchingfield Guildhall area into St John the Baptist's churchyard. It's a lovely historical pocket of the village worthy of deeper investigation.

Essential Intel

This is a driving Trail with short walking sections in each village. Expect some steep hills, steps, uneven or narrow paths, village roads, a pond with an incomplete fence and a few sections where pavements are limited or absent. Wear sensible shoes, plan comfort stops carefully, and keep your Adventurers, paws and all, close while you collar the clues.
