The Mystery of the Missing Manuscript - Can YOU Help Find It?

It's a race against time to find a rare and valuable manuscript that has been missing for centuries. The Long Lost Book Society (LLBS) has enlisted your help to track down the stolen text, written by former Selborne resident and naturalist, Gilbert White. But be warned, there are others with far less noble motives who are also searching for the manuscript. Notorious book thief, Willy Wynn, is your biggest rival, and he will stop at nothing to get his hands on the valuable document.

Treasure Hunt Through Selborne - Zig-Zag Path & Hangars

Are you ready for an adventure in Selborne? Grab your family and friends and embark on this exciting self-guided Treasure Hunt through the village. As you follow the Trail route, you'll uncover sneaky clues hidden on existing buildings, permanent features, and monuments. See if you can solve the clues and discover the location of the buried treasure!

Starting in the car park behind the Selborne Arms, this circular Trail will take you on a journey through the village, exploring its famous landmarks and history. You'll ascend the 'Zig-Zag Path' created by Gilbert White and his brother, follow a woodland path in 'The Hangars' high above the village, and descend back down to the village to explore the Plestor, churchyard, and High Street.

Are YOU ready to help find the missing manuscript and uncover the treasure?

What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

Please Note:

As is detailed in the 'About Trail' box at the start of the Treasure Trail, we would thoroughly recommend a visit to The Gilbert White and; the Oates Collection Museum at The Wakes opposite the church on the high street. The museum is generally open 10.30am until 4.30pm Tues to Sun (Fri to Sun 1st January to 11th February). Your entry fee will enable you to enter for a full year.

Delicious light lunches, cakes and afternoon teams can be enjoyed in the Tea Parlour at The Wakes, or the Bush House Tea Room further along the high street. Another option is the Selborne Arms pub near the Trail's start and finish point.
