More Information:

Essential Intel

This mission includes steep climbs, steps, cobbles, busy seafront sections and unrailed harbour walls. Wear sensible shoes, keep children and dogs close, and take care near the water. Plan extra time in peak season, especially if parking near Marine Drive, and keep the good times rolling before Professor Pooper’s robotic fun police spoil the seaside.

Navigating The Route

This is a circular Spy Mission around Scarborough’s harbour, seafront, old town and castle area, with Agents working to stop Professor Patty Pooper and her robotic fun police before they ban seaside enjoyment altogether.

The mission covers approximately 2 miles and should take around 2+ hours to complete. Operatives will be exploring the harbour, promenade, cobbled streets, churchyard, market area and the routes up towards Scarborough Castle, with plenty of sea air and sneaky skyline views along the way.

There are steps, steep sections and cobbles to navigate, so this Trail is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. Wear suitable footwear, take your time on the hillier stretches and keep younger Agents close near roads, steps and busy seafront areas.

The harbour walls have no railings in places, so take extra care when patrolling near the water, especially with children or canine recruits in the squad.

Getting There

Time to gather your squad and save the seaside from a fun-free future:

By car: The mission begins near the harbour on South Bay, at the coastguard toll house close to the roundabout and Luna Park funfair (YO11 1PG). The nearest parking is on Marine Drive (YO11 1PG). During peak periods, using Park & Ride may save you hunting for a space before the mission even begins.

By public transport: Make your way to Scarborough’s South Bay harbour area, near the roundabout and Luna Park funfair. From there, head for the coastguard toll house to begin the operation.

Need the Loo?

Even top secret agents need a tactical comfort break before stopping mechanical killjoys. Toilets can be found along the harbour wall, not far from both the start and finish points, with another toilet stop near the final harbour stretch.

Bring Your Furry Sidekicks

Four-legged agents can join the operation 🐾

This coastal mission includes harbour paths, promenade sections, cobbles, steep climbs and busy seaside areas, so keep dogs on a lead and close to your squad throughout. Take extra care around the harbour walls, roads, steps and crowds, and check individual cafes, attractions and indoor stops before taking canine colleagues inside.

Food & Drink Stops

Saving Scarborough from a no-fun robot uprising can make any Agent peckish.

You could stock up on snacks and refreshments before you start, or wait until after Clue 12 when the route returns towards town and the seafront. If you have packed supplies, the beach after Clue 13 makes a good picnic stop, provided Professor Pooper has not already tried to outlaw sandwiches.

Want to Make a Day of It?

Scarborough Castle

The mission heads up towards Scarborough Castle, a dramatic clifftop landmark more than 300ft above sea level. The site has been used as a natural fortress for over 3000 years, with Iron Age, Roman and medieval layers all adding to its story. Allow extra time if your squad wants to explore the castle properly.

St Mary’s Church and Anne Bronte’s Grave

The route passes St Mary’s Church, where Anne Bronte is buried. She was laid to rest in Scarborough rather than Haworth because of her love of the sea and to spare her father the anguish of another family funeral. It is a thoughtful, literary pause on the way back down from the castle area.

Scarborough Market

The mission passes the market area, marked as a safe zone if Agents need to update their disguises or simply have a browse. It is a handy stop before the route drops down the steep cobbles towards the seafront.

Scarborough Seafront and Beach

The promenade and beach bring proper seaside energy to this operation, with the route returning to the seafront after the old town section. It is a great spot for a picnic, a breather or a bit of wave-watching once your squad has slipped past the robotic fun police.

Scarborough Harbour

The final stretch explores the harbour area, with boats, harbour walls, lighthouse views and plenty of nautical details to investigate. It is scenic and full of character, but remember that some harbour walls have no railings, so keep the whole squad safely away from the edge.

Mini Secret Agent Club

We have three super duper themed Clubs for your child to enjoy as part of their Treasure Trail experience.

Perfect for 4-8 year olds, the concept behind the Clubs is that your child will get a bundle of goodies to excite them about their forthcoming Trail experience, something to keep them entertained whilst travelling to and from the Trail, and something to be given on completion of the Trail as a keepsake.
