A trail of clues awaits in
Salhouse
Thirty years ago, lottery winner Jack Pott purchased a private island off the coast of Cuba with a view to developing a second home there. For safekeeping, he decided to bury the deeds to the property on the island itself. Unfortunately, after all these years, he has forgotten the exact location, and now the Cuban government is demanding the island back unless Jack can prove ownership. Thankfully, Jack's son foresaw this problem arising and set a number of Clues around the Norfolk Broads, which, when solved, will reveal the true location.
Unfortunately, neither father nor son are able to travel to Norfolk to undertake the quest themselves. Instead, they are reaching out to explorers and adventurers of all ages to undertake the quest for them. Are you up to the challenge of solving the whereabouts of the missing island deeds?

Navigating The Route
This is a circular Treasure Hunt around Salhouse, Woodbastwick and the Norfolk Broads, with Explorers following clues set by Jack Pott's son to work out where Jack has hidden the deeds to a private island off Cuba.
The quest covers 6.5 miles and should take around 3+ hours to complete. It starts at Salhouse Broad car park, heads out around Salhouse and Woodbastwick, and returns to Salhouse Broad car park once the island-deed mystery has been narrowed down.
This Trail is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. Much of the route is off road and may be muddy in places, with uneven walking along the way. It is longer than most quests and can be completed in two separate visits if required.
Many of the roads are narrow with limited or no pavements, and some road crossings may be busy depending on the time of year. Take particular care around the busy road near the war memorial and keep Mini Explorers close wherever the route meets traffic.
Getting There
By car: Start at Salhouse Broad car park (NR13 6RX), using ///mobile.ranch.wolves. Parking payment is CARD only. Begin at the car park and exit via the vehicle entrance.
By public transport: Make your way to Salhouse Broad car park (NR13 6RX), using ///mobile.ranch.wolves, to begin the quest.
Need the Loo?
Public toilets are available at the start and end point at Salhouse Broad car park. You'll also find toilets after Clue 14, and there is another chance to use the public toilet when the route passes Salhouse Broad car park later in the Trail.
Bring Your Furry Sidekicks
Four-legged Explorers are welcome to join the adventure 🐾
This is a long route with off-road sections, uneven walking and possible mud, so be ready for tired paws and mucky ones too. Keep dogs close on the narrow roads, along stretches with limited or no pavements, near busy crossings and around the busy road by the war memorial.
Food & Drink Stops
Supplies are worth planning carefully on this longer quest, as there are limited places to stop during the hunt. Near Clue 14 there is a wonderful establishment where your crew can rest before pressing on with Jack Pott's trail of clues.
Want to Make a Day of It?
Salhouse Broad
After finishing, if you still have the energy, you can go past the public toilets and follow the path to Salhouse Broad itself. The Broad was created from gravel extraction as far back as the 9th century, then became an open area of water in medieval times following flooding from local rivers. Today it is at the forefront of local wildlife conservation and protection, as well as tourism.
Hoveton Great Broad Nature Trail
From Salhouse Broad, Explorers can access the Hoveton Great Broad Nature Trail, but only by ferry or canoe. Charges apply, and the trail is open April-October. It takes 30-60 minutes to go around, and visitors are asked to follow the advice on the signs and notices along the trail.
The Broads
The wider Broads landscape gives this quest its watery Norfolk character. It is described as a network of 7 rivers and 63 broads, or lakes, ranging from small pools to much larger expanses of water. The broads are generally no deeper than 4 metres, were formed by the flooding of peat workings and are equivalent to a National Park.
