Can You Spoil Ivan D Lott's Greedy Plan?

In the quaint town of Royston, a treasure hunt awaits. But this isn't just any ordinary hunt for riches. No, this is a race against time to stop the greedy Ivan D Lott from claiming a hoard of ancient coins and jewels that rightfully belong to the people.

Treasure Hunt Through Royston

It all begins at the Royston Town & Memorial Garden, where you'll find the starting point for this self-guided Treasure Trail. As you make your way through the town, you'll encounter sneaky clues hidden on existing buildings, permanent features, and monuments. Keep your eyes peeled and your wits about you, for only the most daring adventurers will be able to outsmart Ivan and uncover the location of the treasure.

From the peaceful Memorial Gardens to the quiet, narrow streets of the town, this Trail will take you on an immersive and family-friendly journey through Royston. And with the help of Clueless Maximus, the Roman Centurion who originally hid the treasure, you just might be able to outwit Ivan and retrieve the priceless hoard.

The town is counting on YOU… Good luck on your adventure!

What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

Navigating The Route

This is a circular Treasure Hunt through Royston’s historic streets, Memorial Gardens and out onto Therfield Heath, with explorers following pavements, paths and some unmade routes as they track down the hidden hoard.

There are some hills, cobbled and uneven sections along the way, so the route is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. The final part of the Trail includes a steep hill and a stretch across open heathland on unmade paths, which can be muddy and exposed in places - sturdy footwear is highly recommended! Take care near roads throughout and keep your expedition team close by.

Getting There

Time to gather your explorers and begin the quest:

Heath Café Car Park, Baldock Road (SG8 5BG approx.) - Your expedition base, with free parking right by the start point.

From here, you’ll head out on foot to begin your search for Clueless Maximus’ lost treasure.

Need the Loo?

Even the boldest adventurers need a pit stop!

Toilets can be found at the start and finish point near the car park.

Bring Your Furry Sidekicks

Four-legged explorers are welcome on the quest. With town streets, gardens and open heathland to explore, it’s a great outing for canine companions - just keep leads handy near roads and be mindful in more open areas.

Base Camps & Refuelling

There are opportunities to grab refreshments at the start and along the High Street, but it’s a good idea to bring supplies too.

Memorial Gardens (around Clue 09) is a perfect picnic spot, and there’s also space to refuel at the end - ideal before or after tackling that final climb!
