Rouken Glen - Park & Highland Glen

Navigating The Route

This is a circular Spy Mission around Rouken Glen Park & Highland Glen, with Agents helping Captain Hazel Nutt crack the fiendish code hidden in Rouken Glen by international menace and master hacker Sven Doublo before he drains the council's funds.

The mission covers approximately 1.75 miles and should take around 2 hours to complete. You'll start from Rouken Glen Park Garden Centre car park, investigate Rouken Glen Park, pass the Pavilion and playpark, explore around the pond and Boat House, tackle a short woodland path, wooden bridges and steps, then loop back towards the garden centre.

This Trail is not suitable for wheelchairs. Although there is a short woodland path, wooden bridges and steps to negotiate, it should still be manageable with a pushchair and two people.

One section leaves the park and walks briefly along roads, including Davieland Road and Rouken Glen Road, so keep Mini Agents close and take care around traffic. The route also goes near the pond and Boat House - do not get too close to the water's edge.

Getting There

By car: Start your operation at Rouken Glen Park Garden Centre car park (G46 7UG), using ///edge.rescue.shrimp.

By public transport: Make your way to Rouken Glen Park Garden Centre car park to begin the mission. The circular route brings you back to the car park once Sven Doublo's code has been cracked.

The route includes park paths, a short woodland path, wooden bridges, steps and a brief road section along Davieland Road and Rouken Glen Road, so leads are sensible around traffic and tighter spots. Keep canine recruits close near the pond and Boat House, and do not let them get too close to the water's edge.

Food & Drink Stops

Code-cracking is thirsty work. Refreshments are available at the Pavilion Café at the start/end, and snack ops may be possible en route.

If you're packing your own field rations, the park is perfect for picnics too, with a picnic near the pond suggested for a tactical pause.

Rouken Glen Park

The mission explores Rouken Glen Park on a circular route, so it's well worth allowing extra time here once the intel is secure. The park has playgrounds, a boating pond, events and activities, and is perfect for picnics too.

The Waterfall and Old Mill Remains

Rouken Glen takes its name from the old Rock End Meal Mill in the glen, which dates back to the early 16th century. The remains of it can be seen at the foot of the waterfall deep within the foliage, high on the slope away from the pathway. The waterfall itself was based on a natural waterfall and doubled in height to form a reservoir to supply the printworks downstream at Thornliebank during the early 1800s.

Orchard Beds

Geology-loving Agents should keep their eyes peeled for the Orchard Beds. Rouken Glen is said to be the best place in Scotland to observe these rock formations from the Carboniferous period, around 325 million years ago, revealing a time when Scotland was near the equator, with tropical climates and vast river deltas.

Eastwood House and Eastwood Park

Eastwood House is a 19th century mansion house and the former estate of Lord Weir, who bought the estate in 1914. Eastwood Park is mentioned as a nearby area along Rouken Glen Road, and the route notes that Laurel and Hardy opened a fete there after the Second World War.
