The Mysterious Disappearance of Ivanda Bealone

It was a surprising choice when theatre producer Putona Show cast American soap star Miss Ivanda Bealone in her new play, The Rothesay Diaries. With only previous experience playing the back end of a pantomime horse, many were sceptical. But Putona saw something in Ivanda's talent that others didn't, and she was determined to make her Broadway dreams come true.

But just when everything seemed to be going well, Ivanda mysteriously vanished after the final scene of the play. Was it a case of stage fright, or did someone have a sinister motive for silencing her?

Detective Mystery Through Rothesay

Join Chief Inspector Laura Norder as you embark on an immersive self-guided detective mystery through the charming town of Rothesay. Starting outside the Discovery Centre, your adventure will take you on a circuit of the town, passing by the harbour area, Rothesay Castle, the museum, and even the Victorian public loos!

As you follow the trail of clues set on existing buildings, permanent features, and monuments, you'll need to use your detective skills to eliminate suspects and uncover the truth about Ivanda's final moments.

The town of Rothesay is counting on YOU to solve this mystery and bring justice for Ivanda!

What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

Navigating The Route

This is a circular Detective Mystery through Rothesay’s seafront, town centre, hillside paths and quieter residential streets, with sleuths following pavements, clear paths and lanes as they piece together what happened to Ivanda Bealone.

The route includes steep hills, steps and some uneven sections, so it is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.

⚠️ Important: You will be travelling along roads, crossing points and sections with no pavement, as well as areas near the seafront and harbour edge, so detectives should stay alert at all times, walk carefully and keep younger team members under close supervision.

Take extra care on steep slopes, steps and downhill sections, and remain vigilant near the water’s edge.

Getting There

Time to assemble your squad and open the case file:

By car: Chapel Hill Road Car Park (PA20 0AX) is the nearest option to the start of your investigation.

By public transport: Rothesay is accessible via ferry to the Isle of Bute, with the town centre and start point just a short walk from the pier.

Your investigation begins outside the Isle of Bute Discovery Centre on Victoria Street (PA20 0BT) - so step into position and start scanning for your first clue straight away.

Need the Loo?

Even top detectives need a comfort break during a long case!

Toilets can be found in the Discovery Centre at the start and later at the West Pier Ferry Terminal near the final stretch, so you have a couple of well-timed opportunities to pause during your investigation.

Bring Your Furry Sidekicks

Four-legged detectives are welcome on the case 🐾

With a mix of town streets, hillside paths and coastal stretches, it’s a great outing for canine companions - just keep leads handy near roads, steps and along the seafront.

Food & Drink Stops

Cracking this case is hungry work!

There are plenty of opportunities to grab refreshments throughout Rothesay, especially along the seafront and town centre, making it easy to refuel as you go.

Perfect for keeping your detective brain ticking over between suspect eliminations.
