During Storm Floris on Monday 4 August 2025, a large tree toppled onto the pedestrian suspension bridge over the River Cree. The impact damaged three of the bridge’s hangers, prompting Dumfries and Galloway Council’s engineering team to carry out a formal inspection.

For safety, the bridge was closed to the public at the end of August while the council seeks cost estimates for repairs. No reopening date has yet been confirmed. As this has majorly affected the Trail route, we will continue to monitor the situation.
