The Mischievous Invisibility Device - A Newport Adventure

The pesky giggling gremlins of Newport have managed to get their sneaky little hands on an invisibility device. It was invented by world-famous physicist Ant E. Matter to help the government with a super secret mission. Can you imagine what mischief the gremlins could get up to with this machine?

These naughty creatures have pinky-promised that they will hand over the device if we work out all the clues they have left around the town. We have until 2300 hours today since, as part of the agreement, we also have to hand over some delicious Isle of Wight ice cream, and we don't want it to melt… Ready? Your mission starts now!

Spy Mission Through Newport - County Town of Gremlins

Attention super spies! We need you for a self-guided spy mission through the heart of this amazing county town. You'll find clues around every corner as you search through the bustling environment of the town, then through a charming garden and park area before sneaking back to complete your mission back in the heart of the town.

There are real gremlins in the works on the Isle of Wight! A fantastical machine that would aid their heinous plan has fallen into the hands of the pesky little troublemakers, and with it, they plan to wreak untold havoc, not only in Newport but across the entire Island! We need you, our top-level agent, to solve a trail of sneaky clues that the little tikes have set - which, if you are successful, will see them return the device and ensure that you save the day!

What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

Before you set off on your awesome adventure, there are a few things you need to know...

This Trail is suitable for pushchair and wheelchair users.

Four-legged friends are welcome, but they will need to stay on leads and be well-behaved in the town.

Toilets can be found in the vicinity of Clue 09. Why not plan for a picnic in the garden area, which you'll be at toward the end of your mission, at Clues 14 and 15. There's also a playpark here for junior spies to let off any pent up steam. There are many opportunities for snacks and refreshments throughout the Trail.

Parking is available at Little London car park on Sea Street (PO30 5BN). If this is full when you visit, the County Hall car park further along Sea Street (PO30 5BW) is also available. Both are a short walk away from the start point of the Trail.

There are some fantastic events in Newport's calendar, from the Newport Carnival to the fantastic Isle of Wight day. Although these are great times to visit Newport, some of the clues on this Trail may become obstructed or difficult to access. If you would like further information about event dates, why not visit the Isle of Wight's official tourism website.

Once you have saved the day with the spy mission, why not spend the rest of it visiting nearby Carisbrooke Castle? Or you could even find out more about the history of the area at the fascinating Museum of Island History in the Guildhall at the start and end of the Trail.
