Navigating The Route

This is a circular Spy Mission around New Quay Cardigan Bay Town, with Agents helping after Professor D. Ragons-Claw has tampered with Spy HQ's luxury yacht navigation system, following the leaked clues around New Quay to crack the override code and steer the mission to safety.

The operation covers approximately 2.5 miles and should take around 2 hours to complete. You'll start from Church Road car park, work your way through New Quay, head towards the harbour, beach and sea-edge sections, pass the Marine Wildlife Centre and loop back to the car park.

This Trail is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. There are steep hills throughout the route, it is unsuitable for manual wheelchairs, and there is a section with no pavements. Sturdy footwear is recommended.

Take care around the busy roads, near the sea and on the quay, where there are steep drops either side of the walls. The final stretch can get very busy with traffic in summer and has no pavement, so keep Mini Agents close and stay alert.

Optional route intel: you can walk across the grass by the wooden benches opposite the Marine Wildlife Centre and up the path beyond to the main road. The Harbourmaster's Office is often shut.

Getting There

By car: Start at Church Road car park (SA45 9PB), using ///level.weep.differ. Park on your right as you come into New Quay.

Another option is Central car park on Towyn Road (SA45 9QQ), using ///views.soil.grips. This is suggested if you need longer than 2 hours.

By public transport: Make your way to Church Road car park on your right as you come into New Quay to begin the mission. The route loops back to the car park once the override code has been cracked.

Comfort breaks are covered at the start and the harbour. There is also a toilet block on the left as you head up the road on the route.

The route includes steep hills, busy roads, a section with no pavements, sea-edge areas and the quay with steep drops either side of the walls, so keep canine recruits close throughout. Take particular care on the final stretch in summer, when traffic can get very busy and there is no pavement.

Food & Drink Stops

Code-cracking tends to burn through supplies, but there are chances to stop for refreshments and stock up on snacks along the way. The Sup Shack is on the route too.

If you're bringing your own rations, you can picnic at the harbour, on the beach, or on the small green overlooking the beach at Clues 08-15.

The mission reaches New Quay harbour, a natural place to pause for sea air, views and a picnic. It is also one of the route's key sea-edge sections, so keep your squad sensible around the quay walls and their steep drops.

Marine Wildlife Centre

The route passes the Marine Wildlife Centre, which has become the focus of marine conservation in the area. Centred in Cardigan Bay, it was established in 1996, and parts of the bay have been designated as special areas of conservation.

Cardigan Bay dolphins

Keep your eyes peeled, Agents: Britain's biggest resident population of dolphins lives in Cardigan Bay. Bottlenose dolphins can be seen all year round, with the summer months best and New Quay the hottest spot.

Dylan Thomas links in New Quay

New Quay has several Dylan Thomas connections for literary Agents to investigate once the main mission is under control. The route mentions notices about Dylan Thomas, including Under Milk Wood, and passes places connected with his life in the town.

The Edge of Love filming links

Film fans can add another layer to the operation: The Edge of Love was filmed in New Quay and released in 2008. Watch for the route's Dylan-linked details as you move through town, including information near The Sup Shack about Mr Bryant and Dylan.
