What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

Navigating The Route

This is a circular Treasure Hunt around Liverpool’s docks, waterfront, Pier Head and city-centre streets, with Explorers following clues to uncover the hidden location of Silver Shadow’s long-lost dragon gold.

The quest covers approximately 2.2 miles and should take around 2.5 hours to complete. Adventurers will roam pavements, cobbles, dockside paths, waterfront areas, Chavasse Park, Castle Street, Exchange Flags, Pier Head and Albert Dock, with plenty of iconic Liverpool sights along the way.

This Trail is great for families and is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, although there are cobbles, busy crossings and dockside sections to navigate. Stay alert near roads, use pedestrian lights where possible, and keep younger Explorers close beside the docks and waterfront.

Getting There

Time to gather your crew and begin the hunt for dragon gold:

By car -  The quest begins beside the entrance to Albert Dock on Gower Street (L3 4AD), between The Beatles Story museum and a Premier Inn, opposite Dukes Dock. Pay and Display parking is available at L3 4AF, with other parking options nearby.

By public transport - The start is around a 15-20 minute walk from Liverpool city centre. Liverpool ONE Bus Station is only around a 2 minute walk away, making it a handy public transport option for Explorers arriving by bus.

Need the Loo?

Even fearless treasure hunters need a pit stop before chasing dragon gold. Public toilets can be found within the main Albert Dock site, where the quest starts and finishes. There are also toilets in Liverpool ONE during the city-centre section of the route, so your crew should have a couple of useful chances to pause.

Bring Your Furry Sidekicks

Four-legged Explorers can join the quest 🐾

This urban waterfront route includes pavements, cobbles, dockside paths, parks, crossings and busy visitor areas. Keep canine companions on a lead and close to your crew, especially near roads, dock edges, the waterfront and busier attractions. Check individual museums, galleries, shops and cafes before taking dogs inside.

Food & Drink Stops

Treasure hunting can make even the boldest Adventurer hungry enough to nibble a dragon’s biscuit tin.

There are public cafes around Albert Dock at the start and finish, with lots of bars, cafes and shops in Liverpool ONE along the way. Chavasse Park and the waterfront also make good picnic spots if you have packed your own supplies.

Want to Make a Day of It?

Albert Dock

The quest begins and ends at Albert Dock, one of Liverpool’s best-known waterfront areas. With museums, galleries, cafes, shops and waterside views all nearby, it is an ideal base for stretching your adventure before or after the hunt.

The Beatles Story

The start point is beside The Beatles Story museum, making it a tempting extra stop for music-loving Explorers. It is perfectly placed if your crew wants to add a Fab Four flourish to the day before following Silver Shadow’s trail.

Liverpool ONE and Chavasse Park

The route heads through Liverpool ONE and Chavasse Park, giving Explorers a handy mix of shops, cafes, open space and city-centre bustle. Chavasse Park is a good picnic spot if your crew wants to pause and review which map locations have already been crossed off.

Museum of Liverpool

The Trail passes the Museum of Liverpool, a brilliant waterfront stop for families and curious Explorers. It is well placed if your crew wants to dig deeper into the city’s stories before completing the final stretch back into Albert Dock.

Tate Liverpool and Albert Dock Attractions

The return route passes the old entrance to Tate Liverpool inside Albert Dock. With galleries, museums, shops and waterside spaces close together, this area is perfect for turning the Treasure Hunt into a bigger day out.
