Your Slippery Spy Mission in Lichfield Cathedral

Calling all awesome agents! Your top-secret assignment takes you to the heart of Lichfield, a charming city filled with history and intrigue. The Market Square is your starting point, and from there, you'll embark on a thrilling self-guided adventure through the city's historic heart.

Spy Mission in Lichfield

Something fishy is going on in Lichfield, and it's up to you to crack the case. The evil Professor G. Reese and his slippery assistant Olly Cann have set up a fiendish machine within the three spires of Lichfield Cathedral. Their goal? To suck up all the oil from the local chip shops and takeaways. But the spires are too slippery to climb, so it's up to YOU to decipher the remote deactivation code before the city erupts into chaos.

Our mole, Indy Hole, has located a series of clues scattered throughout Lichfield. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to solve the clues and retrieve the code. But hurry, time is running out!

Get ready for an immersive scavenger hunt through the charming streets of Lichfield, as you track down clues hidden in peaceful parks, fine buildings, and the unique medieval cathedral. Will you be able to crack the code and save the city from disaster?

What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

Before you set off on your awesome adventure to explore Lichfield, there are a few things you need to know...

This is the first of three Trails that explore Lichfield. Lichfield - Twist the Bard's Tale is the second part, and Lichfield - Crier Cries No More is the third. For the best Trailing experience, we recommend completing the Trails in this order.

The route is friendly for wheelchair users and pushchairs.

Bring your four-legged friends along! This Trail is along a dog-friendly route.

The closest long-stay pay and display car park to the Trail start point is at Bird Street (WS13 6AE), just a two-minute walk away.

There are some fantastic events in Lichfield’s calendar, all of which are fantastic times to visit this beautiful city. However, you may find that some of the clues on this Trail become obstructed or difficult to access on these occasions. Please check for events before setting off.

There are public toilets available towards the beginning and end of the Trail, and the route passes several pubs, shops and cafes along the way. Beacon Park is the perfect stop for a picnic.

Looking for more things to do in Lichfield? Make a day of it and learn about some people from Lichfield’s past at the Erasmus Darwin House or at Samuel Johnson’s Birthplace Museum. You could even challenge yourself to our Lichfield – Twist the Bard’s Tale Trail and let out your inner treasure seeker!
