Navigating The Route

This is a circular Detective Mystery around London’s King’s Cross and St Pancras area, with sleuths following clues through famous stations, striking statues, historic streets and canal-side spaces as they investigate the suspicious events surrounding film extra Stan Denstare.

The investigation covers approximately 2.5 miles and should take around 2.5 hours to complete. Detectives will be patrolling busy station concourses, pavements, road crossings, gardens, towpaths and public spaces around this lively part of London. This Trail is great for families, but it is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.

⚠️ Important: This route passes through very busy central London locations, so keep close control of belongings and younger detectives at all times. There are also road crossings, stairs, stepped ramps and canal towpath sections with no barriers next to the water, so take extra care while following the evidence.

The route includes Somers Town Bridge, which is open from 6am to 9pm daily. If the bridge is closed when you arrive, continue along the road, turn left into Goods Way, then take the next left over the canal to reach Granary Square and continue the investigation.

Getting There

Time to assemble your squad and get this case rolling:

By public transport: The investigation begins inside King’s Cross Mainline Station (N1 9AL), underneath the striking station roof. Start outside the main ticket office, where your first clue awaits. With King’s Cross and St Pancras stations both central to the route, public transport is the simplest way to reach this case.

By car: This is a central London route, so arriving by public transport is strongly recommended. There is no dedicated parking for this investigation, so anyone driving should plan parking independently before setting off and allow plenty of extra time.

Even top detectives need a comfort break between interrogations. Toilets can be found in both King’s Cross and St Pancras stations at the start and end of the Trail, with additional facilities next to Granary Square around Clues 13 and 14.

This urban investigation includes busy station areas, pavements, gardens and canal-side paths, so canine colleagues will need to stay on a lead and close to the squad. Take extra care around traffic, crowds, steps and the towpath near the canal basin, where there are no barriers by the water.

If your squad fancies a pause mid-investigation, Granary Square around Clues 13 and 14 is an ideal picnic spot where you can refuel, watch the world go by and keep an eye out for suspicious behaviour.

St Pancras Gardens

This peaceful green space offers a quieter stretch of the route, with historic links to St Pancras Old Church, the Hardy Tree and Soane’s mausoleum. It is a good place to pause briefly before the investigation heads towards the canal.

Granary Square and Regent’s Canal

Granary Square is a brilliant place to make the most of your day, especially if your squad wants a picnic stop. The nearby canal towpath adds a different flavour to the case, with waterside views, bridges and plenty of city bustle to watch once the clues are safely under control.
