The Disappearing Marina Mystery

Something strange is happening in the marina of Hull. Boats are starting to disappear without a trace, and the evil villain, Baron Ivor Grudge, is behind it all. Having been fired from his job as an apprentice welder in the dockyards of Hull, he is seeking revenge by making the marina disappear. It's up to YOU, our best code crackers, to follow the clues and deactivate the device before it's too late!

Spy Mission Through Hull's Old Town

Embark on an exciting self-guided spy mission through the Old Town of Hull, searching for clues to deactivate the device and save the marina. What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

Navigating The Route

This is a circular spy mission through Hull’s Old Town, marina and city centre, with agents following pavements, pedestrian streets, bridges and waterside paths as they track down vital intel.

There are steps, bridges, varied terrain and marina edges along the route, so it is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. Take extra care near the water, especially along the marina and lock areas, and stay alert when crossing roads and moving through busy streets.

Getting There

Time to deploy your agents and begin the operation:

William Wilberforce statue, Wilberforce Drive (HU1 3DG) - Your official mission start point, outside the Hull School of Art and Design.

Lowgate Car Park (HU1 2AA) - A handy nearby option, with additional metered parking available in surrounding streets.

Need the Loo?

Even elite agents need a quick comfort break! Toilets can be found at the finish near Queen Victoria Square, and at Princes Quay Shopping Centre (after Clue 18).

There are also plenty of cafés and shops along the route - ideal for a discreet refuel while keeping your cover intact.

Bring Your Furry Sidekicks

Four-legged agents are welcome on this mission. With plenty of town streets and waterside paths to explore, it’s a great outing for canine companions - just keep leads handy near roads, bridges and the marina edge.

Marina Zones & Enemy Activity

Large sections of this mission take place around the marina, where visibility (and footing!) can be tricky. Watch for steps, edges and busy areas - and keep an eye out for suspicious “henchmen” activity along the waterfront.

Safe Zones & Refuelling

There are plenty of places to pause and regroup:

Along the route through Old Town (cafés and shops)

Near the finish at Queen Victoria Square

Queen’s Gardens (great picnic spot after your mission)

All perfect for reviewing intel before the final push.

Want to Make a Day of It?

Old Town Secrets & Spy Routes

This mission weaves through Hull’s historic Old Town, packed with narrow lanes, hidden corners and perfect cover for undercover agents.

Marina Mayhem & Waterside Intel

With long stretches along the marina, you’ll be right in the heart of the action. Bridges, locks and dockside paths make this feel like a proper high-stakes operation.

Museums, Gardens & Mission Extras

From museums along High Street to the open space of Queen’s Gardens, there’s loads to explore once your mission is complete - ideal for a relaxed debrief (preferably without the yellow fog…).
