The Secret Agent Bicycle Mission - Don't Let SOFTIEs Get The Better of NUTY
Intelligence reports have revealed that an enemy radio station is hidden somewhere in the beautiful countryside of The Birchams. Agents from the Suffolk Operational Force Target Information Executive (SOFTIE) are transmitting encrypted messages back to their headquarters, containing vital information about future operations of the Norfolk Underground Team Yankee (NUTY). It's up to YOU and your team to put a stop to these messages by identifying the SOFTIE decryption key. But beware, this mission won't be easy and to avoid contact with SOFTIE agents, we strongly recommend completing it on bicycles.

Navigating The Route
This is a circular spy mission by bicycle through the villages of Great Bircham, Bircham Tofts and Bircham Newton, with agents following country roads, lanes and a bridleway as they gather intel to uncover the SOFTIE decryption key.
The route is approximately 12 miles long and includes undulating terrain and one off-road section that can be muddy. A good level of cycling confidence is required.
⚠️ Important: Much of this mission takes place along open country roads, where you may encounter fast-moving traffic, large vehicles and agricultural machinery, so agents should ride in control at all times, follow the Highway Code and keep younger operatives under close supervision.
Helmets and high-visibility clothing are strongly recommended for this operation.
Getting There
Your mission begins outside the Great Bircham Social Club on Church Lane.
By car:
Parking is available near the start point at Great Bircham Social Club, Church Lane (PE31 6XS).
By public transport:
Public transport options are limited in this rural area, so travelling by car, or bicycle, is the most practical way to reach the start of your mission.
Need the Loo?
Even elite agents need a quick comfort break! There are no public toilets along the route, but a pub and cafe's near the start and end, and the Windmill if open, have options for customers or visitors.
Leave your Furry Sidekicks at home 🐾
Given the distance, cycling nature and road sections, this mission is better suited to human-powered operatives along, unless your canine companion is trained in advanced field support!
Food & Drink Stops
Agents, plan your supplies carefully! There are a few opportunities to refuel along the route - including a cafe and shop just before Clue 02, The King’s Head just after Clue 03, and a bakery and cafe at Bircham Windmill (accessible after Clues 05 and 08). Check opening days and times before you set off.
However, given the length of the mission, it is wise to bring plenty of rations and water with you before setting off.
Want to Make a Day of It?
Windmills, Villages and Open Countryside
The Birchams offer classic Norfolk scenery, with quiet lanes, open farmland and traditional village life forming the backdrop to your mission.
Bircham Windmill and Local Produce
A working windmill, bakery and tea room make this a brilliant optional stop - perfect for refuelling while keeping an eye out for suspicious activity.
RAF History and Hidden Stories
From former airfield activity at Bircham Newton to wartime links and memorials, the area is packed with history - ideal terrain for a covert operation.
