This Trail is temporarily offline due to improvement works at Elford Jubilee Memorial Playground. The area is currently closed off, which affects the route and clues, so we’ll keep the Trail unavailable until access has been restored and everything can be checked.

The works began in late May and are expected to continue into mid/late July 2026, although this may change depending on the progress of the project. Sorry for any disappointment - we’ll bring the Trail back as soon as we can!

Legend has it that the fierce Viking warrior, Ivar Bloodaxe, pillaged and plundered his way through the local villages 1100 years ago, amassing a small fortune in ill-gotten gains. But his reign of terror was cut short when he was driven off by a Saxon army, leaving his loot hidden in an unmarked location. Decades later, when the Staffordshire Hoard was unearthed, archaeologists were surprised to find an odd-looking map among the treasures. Could it be a clue to Ivar's lost stash?

We are currently unaware of any restrictions for dogs on this Trail, and whilst most of our Trails can be enjoyed with dogs, those in towns and cities may be less suitable due to traffic and a lack of open spaces. You may also encounter restricted access to parks etc.

Perfect for 4-8 year olds, the concept behind the Clubs is that your child will get a bundle of goodies to excite them about their forthcoming Trail experience, something to keep them entertained whilst travelling to and from the Trail, and something to be given on completion of the Trail as a keepsake.
