The Quest for Maid Marian's Missing Sword

Legend has it that when Robin Hood and Maid Marian wed at St Mary's Church in Edwinstowe, Robin bestowed a ceremonial sword to Marian as a sign of his eternal love. However, upon hearing this news, the dastardly Sheriff of Nottingham set out to confiscate this sword, believing it had been stolen from his armoury. Robin couldn't let this happen, so he instructed one of his merry men, Rich Pickings, to hide it away from the Sheriff's clutches. Rich then departed on a Crusade soon after stowing it away but left a series of clues to where he hid it and a treasure map marked with the possible locations. Your task, as honorary merry men (and women!), is to solve these clues and reveal the sword's hiding place without the Sheriff's men spotting what you're up to. Good luck Outlaws and be brave on this quest. Let's get Maid Marian's treasured sword back to where it belongs!

What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

Please Note:

You'll be evading the eyes of the Sheriff of Nottingham and his men around the village of Edwinstowe and the deep dark depths of Sherwood Forest! Rich Pickings' original map and Clues were covered in mud so be warned. If there's been recent rainfall, suitable footwear is in order.

Stock up on snacks or grab refreshments in the village at the start of the Trail, or near the end at the Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre, or pack a picnic to tuck into at the Major Oak halfway round. Find toilets in the village just after Clue 04, or at the Visitor Centre.

We are currently unaware of any restrictions for dogs on this Trail, and whilst most of our Trails can be enjoyed with dogs, those in towns and cities may be less suitable due to traffic and a lack of open spaces. You may also encounter restricted access to parks etc.
