Help Stop the Viking Invasion of Dingwall!

The peaceful town of Dingwall is under threat from the crazed Viking descendant, Bjorn Toby Baad. He seeks to turn the town into a gateway to the Gods, and has planted devices that would trap its inhabitants in a never-ending feast of rye bread and meatballs, with group sessions of assembling flat-packed furniture. Oh, the horror! Luckily, the top mole at Spy HQ, Diablo Sven, has infiltrated Bjorn's secret base and uncovered a series of Clues that can deactivate the devices. But Diablo has now become hooked on the latest Scandi noir TV series, and Spy HQ needs new agents to take on this urgent mission. Are YOU ready to join the Squad?

What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

Navigating The Route

This is a circular spy mission through Dingwall's town centre, parkland, railway surroundings and historic streets, with agents following pavements, paths and quiet roads as they gather the intel needed to stop Bjorn Toby Baad's bizarre Viking takeover.

The mission is mostly flat throughout, although there is one short uneven path section where younger operatives may experience a slight wobble in their radar boots. The route also includes a pedestrian railway crossing, so squads should stay together and remain alert. Pushchairs should manage the terrain, but the mission is not suitable for wheelchairs.

⚠️ Important: Agents will encounter roads, crossings and the railway crossing, so operatives should stay vigilant at all times, use designated crossing points and keep Mini Agents under close supervision. Extra care is needed when crossing the railway and near roads around the town centre.

Getting There

Time to deploy your agents and begin the mission:

By car: Your undercover base is Cromartie Memorial Car Park, Church Street (IV15 9SB), which serves as both the start and finish point of the operation.

By public transport: Dingwall railway station is around a 10-minute walk from the start point and is served by ScotRail services on the Far North and Kyle of Lochalsh lines. The station also has toilets, refreshments and waiting facilities.

Your first clue awaits beside the Earl of Cromarty memorial in Cromartie Memorial Car Park, so switch to stealth mode and start gathering intel immediately.

Need the Loo?

Even elite agents need a comfort break during a long operation!

Public toilets can be found in Pefferside Park shortly after Clue 03, and later at Dingwall railway station when operating near Clue 11, giving your squad a couple of opportunities to pause and regroup.

Bring Your Furry Sidekicks

Four-legged agents are welcome on this mission 🐾

With a mix of town streets, parkland paths and quieter sections, it makes a suitable outing for canine operatives. Just keep leads handy near roads, the railway crossing and busier areas of town.

Food & Drink Stops

Agents, keep your energy levels topped up!

The mission starts and finishes close to Dingwall town centre, where you'll find plenty of cafés, shops and places to pick up provisions. There are also opportunities to grab refreshments near the railway station later in the operation.

If squad morale starts to wobble, a covert hot chocolate may be authorised by HQ.

Want to Make a Day of It?

Pefferside Park and the River Peffery

The route passes through attractive parkland beside the River Peffery, offering a pleasant green break from your undercover work.

Viking History and Ancient Parliaments

Recent excavations suggest the Cromartie Memorial area may once have been the site of a Viking 'Thing' - a Norse parliament established by Thorfinn the Mighty in the 11th century. Perfect territory for a mission involving a Viking descendant with grand ambitions.

Dingwall Railway Heritage

The railway has been part of Dingwall life since the 1860s, and the station still retains much of its historic character today. It makes an interesting stop for transport enthusiasts and undercover operatives alike.

Optional Detour - Dingwall Museum

The Trail passes Dingwall Museum in the old Tolbooth. It isn't part of the mission itself and isn't open year-round, but if access allows, it's well worth a visit for its displays on the town's history, fishing heritage and local stories.
