The Missing Beatrix Potter Tale - Can YOU Find It?
Legend has it that the beloved author, Beatrix Potter, gifted a handwritten copy of 'The Tale of the Coniston Cupcake Maker' to the schoolchildren of Coniston village. But after the story was read to them, it mysteriously disappeared! Now, a secret map has been discovered that leads to an island on the lake, with notes scribbled on the reverse in Potter's handwriting. These notes contain a series of clues that will lead you on an adventure through the hills of Coniston, in search of something very 'Pottery' that will be the icing on the cake for those brave enough to 'gateau' there. Are you ready to dessert what you're doing and share a slice of this missing masterpiece with the world?

Please Note:
This is a circular Trail that explores the picturesque Low Yewdale which used to be part of the larger Monk Coniston estate.
The majority of the Trail is off road, following well-defined and clearly marked country footpaths which can be uneven in places, so stout footwear, and waterproofs, are recommended.
There are no places to stop for refreshments along the way but plenty of opportunity for a picnic with stunning views, so please plan ahead.
There are plenty of amenities available in the village of Coniston as well as public toilets in the main car park (LA21 8EH) next to the main Tourist Information Centre. You will need to make use of these before starting or after finishing the Trail.
