Treasure Hunt Trail
The Mysterious Treasure of The Great Bath Road
When the beloved resident, Heidi Yergold, passed away, her family was shocked to discover a long-kept secret. Among her possessions was a weathered map, signed by her ancestor Robbie Yergold, one of the infamous 'Naked Highwaymen of The Great Bath Road'! Convinced that this map holds the key to recovering stolen treasures from centuries ago, Heidi's solicitors have enlisted the help of the Exploration Society. But they need YOU - our top treasure seekers - to follow the route around Chippenham, crack the curious clues, and unearth the hidden hoard. Are you ready for an adventure like no other?
The Naked Highwaymen of The Great Bath Road
Embark on an exciting self-guided walking adventure through Chippenham, filled with mystery and intrigue. This family-friendly Treasure Trail will take you on a quest to solve the sneaky clues hidden on existing buildings, permanent features, and monuments. As you follow the route, you'll get a taste of the town's history and why it was once known as 'Little Bath'.
From its Saxon beginnings, Chippenham has grown into a charming town, nestled in a loop of the River Avon. Your journey will begin near the river, where you'll continue to the famous Western Arches designed by Brunel for the Great Western Railway. Stroll through picturesque parkland alongside the river before heading back towards the centre of town. On the High Street, you'll find a variety of buildings made of beautiful Cotswold stone, giving you a taste of the town's rich heritage.
