Navigating The Route

This is a circular Spy Mission around Beaconsfield’s Old Town, Windsor End and Aylesbury End, with Agents racing to recover the missing combination needed to open a safe full of priceless Enid Blyton First Editions.

The mission covers approximately 2 miles and should take around 2 hours to complete. You’ll discreetly explore old streets, lanes, footpaths, recreation ground paths, London End, Windsor End and the churchyard before returning to the starting area.

This Trail is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. The route is mostly on pavements and paths, but there are some road crossings, including busy roads, so keep Mini Agents close and use marked crossings where available.

Getting There

By car - Your mission begins on Windsor End (HP9 2JN), using ///racing.sample.slot.

Free parking is usually available here, except on Tuesdays when parking is restricted because of the market. 

PLEASE NOTE - Parking is also virtually impossible during the annual Charter Fair on 9th/10th May, so plan your visit carefully if you’re operating around those dates.

By public transport

Make your way into Beaconsfield Old Town, then head for Windsor End to begin the mission. The route starts near The Greyhound and loops back to the same area once the final code has been cracked.

Need the Loo?

Even elite Agents need a tactical comfort break before chasing literary thieves. Toilets are to the left of The Greyhound on Windsor End, near the start and end of the mission, though they are closed on Sundays.

Bring Your Furry Sidekicks

Four-legged Agents can join the outdoor operation 🐾

This route includes pavements, footpaths, recreation ground paths, churchyard paths and several road crossings. Keep canine recruits close throughout, especially near busy roads, traffic islands and the livelier Old Town sections. Any dog found sniffing out First Editions should be promoted immediately to Bookhound Division.

Stopping WELL Inc. from pinching priceless pages can make any squad peckish.

There are pubs and restaurants along Windsor End, making it easy to refuel before, during or after the mission. You can also stock up on snacks and supplies before setting off, then enjoy a picnic at The Malthouse Square Recreation Ground around Clue 03.

Bekonscot Model Village

Bekonscot Model Village is the star extra for this mission. Created in 1928, it’s the world’s oldest surviving model village and is said to have helped inspire Enid Blyton’s Toytown tales. A perfect add-on for Agents who enjoy tiny streets, tiny stations and large-scale snooping.

Beaconsfield Old Town Pubs and Restaurants

Windsor End and the Old Town have plenty of places to turn the mission into a longer visit. The area’s coaching-inn past gives it a proper historic flavour, while today’s pubs and restaurants make it ideal for a post-operation debrief.

St Mary and All Saints Churchyard

The mission finishes with several clues in the churchyard, which is also worth a respectful extra wander. It contains links to author G K Chesterton, statesman Edmund Burke and poet Edmund Waller, whose resting place is marked by a tall stone obelisk.

Enid Blyton and Literary Beaconsfield

Fans of the mission’s bookish theme may want to explore Beaconsfield’s literary links further. Enid Blyton once lived at Green Hedges, now marked by Blyton Close, while Terry Pratchett was also born and raised in the town.

Malthouse Square Recreation Ground

This is a handy early picnic stop and a good breather for families. It gives Mini Agents a chance to burn off energy before the mission heads back into busier roads, covert clue-hunting and the continuing threat of WELL Inc. skulking behind a suspicious hedge.
