Baslow
Baslow is in chaos as a sneaky eagle has been swooping down and stealing shiny items from unsuspecting residents. But while the townspeople are busy arguing over who is to blame, the rogue eagle continues to make off with their precious possessions. Luckily, local birdwatcher Burt Spotter has been tracking the eagle's movements and has created a map with all its landing spots. However, it seems that Burt may be working with the eagle, as he has hidden the map locations within riddles. It's up to YOU, our top treasure hunters, to untangle this mess and recover the stolen loot!
Treasure Hunt Through Baslow - Historic Village
Looking for a fun day out with family and friends in Baslow? Why not embark on this self-guided Treasure Hunt, filled with exciting challenges and clues to unravel. The Trail begins at the Village Hall car park and takes you through the quiet back streets, down to the village church, and past charming tea-rooms, lovely thatched cottages, and historic buildings. Keep an eye out for the pack-horse bridges and make your way to the grounds of the famous Chatsworth Estate before returning to the start.

Navigating The Route
This is a circular Treasure Hunt around Baslow Historic Village, with Adventurers following birdwatcher Burt Spotter's map of a sneaky eagle's landing spots to track down the shiny loot it has been stealing around Baslow.
The quest covers approximately 1.8 miles and should take around 2 hours to complete. You'll start by the green at Nether End, explore Baslow's village paths, roads and churchyard, negotiate stiles and gates, and loop back to Nether End once the eagle's trail has been followed.
This Trail is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. The route includes stiles and gates, plus various paths and roads, some very narrow and some very busy. One section after Clue 16 can become wet and boggy after periods of rain, so waterproof footwear is strongly advised.
Take care around busy roads and roundabout traffic, use pedestrian crossings carefully, and keep low at the bridge where instructed. Keep Mini Explorers close - especially if anyone starts scanning the skies for suspicious swooping birds.
Getting There
By car: Begin your quest by the green at Nether End in Baslow (DE45 1SR). The recommended parking spot is Nether End car park (DE45 1SR), next to the green.
By public transport: Make your way to the green at Nether End in Baslow, by the bus stop, to start the adventure. The route is circular and returns to Nether End.
Need the Loo?
Seek out toilets at the start before your Explorers set off on the eagle's trail.
Bring Your Furry Sidekicks
Four-legged Explorers are welcome to join the treasure hunt 🐾
The route includes stiles, gates, narrow sections, busy roads, roundabout traffic and paths that can become wet and boggy after rain. Keep dogs close around traffic, take extra care at crossings, and be ready for muddy paws if the weather has been damp.
Food & Drink Stops
Stock up on provisions during the first part of the route, or wait until the end to refuel. The Devonshire Arms and the Co-op are both on the route.
If you fancy stretching the adventure, there is an optional diversion before Clue 17: turn right on reaching Plantation Cottage to get to Chatsworth Park, where you are welcome to walk, picnic and play for free. Allow extra time for this detour.

Chatsworth Park
The standout extra is the optional diversion from Plantation Cottage to Chatsworth Park. Adventurers are welcome to walk, picnic and play there for free, making it a brilliant way to turn the treasure hunt into a longer outdoor expedition. Allow extra time if you take this detour before Clue 17.
Baslow Churchyard and Church
The route leads through the lych gate into the churchyard, then around the church, past a cross in the path and up steps to a viewpoint. The church clock is part of the Trail too, and the churchyard includes the war memorial - ideal for Explorers who enjoy historic corners with plenty to spot.
Baslow Edge and the Eagle Stone
High above Baslow on Baslow Edge is the Eagle Stone. Young men used to climb to the top of this rock to show off their prowess and fitness for marriage, and in this adventure it also makes a fitting lookout for Eric the Eagle.
